It's not an error per se, of course, but as I said it is extraneous. I don't agree that it adds any useful emphasis. It's like "the reason why I do that" and "the reason is because", which should be expressed as: "the reason I do that" and "the reason is ..." Fewer words, always, provided the meaning remains clear. Oh and apologies for the extraneous, not to say erroneous, 'a' in lying. You are correct, of course.

Try this for an approach: whenever you write some text, do your best to get the grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation right in your own work, and to weed out typos. Then leave it at that. If you spot somebody else getting it wrong in their work, just chuckle discreetly to yourself. Don't point it out to them unless they are genuinely likely to appreciate the help, and even then do it constructively. Just a suggestion ...
