  5. Aldi
Smart battery charger .... reduced from £12.99 to £9.99

3 charging modes available in the menu

1] fixed current of 0.8 amp .... final charge voltage goes up to 14.8
2] fixed current of 3.8 amp .... final charge voltage goes up to 15.1
3] fixed current of 3.8 amp .... final charge voltage goes up to 15.5
    ..... used for cold conditions

Also : recovery mode - pulsed current charging for deeply discharged batteries .... automatically detected and activated

Automatic sensing of 6 or 12 volt
Suitable for all battery types except lithium

All modes switch to trickle charge when completed

As usual , I'll do my best to find fault with it and/or wreck it ,
while it's still under guarantee .

    I'll report back here if I succeed .... :D

  7. A few years back we dropped into Aldi to pick up a few of their Mars bar and Snickers look alike (you will be hard pushed to tell the difference).

in addition to the choc bars I came out with an arc welder.

I will shortly be replacing the fuel filter on the bike and while I am groping around in the tank will have a good look with my Aldi borescope which again prompted that perennial question “what are you going to use that for”.

The answer, of course, is “until I use it I don’t know” but the best strategy is to make sure that it’s first use is to do something for your dearly beloved.

  8. Google rawlnut suppliers and you will be spoilt for choice

  9. You pay a lot more than that if you stick some coffee in it...

  10. The cold mode should also be used for AGM batteries if you read the destructions carefully :)

  11. I believe sticking a tea bag in is even mo:eek:re uneconomic - if only Aldi did takeaway tea and coffee

  12. DIY colonoscopy? She will really love you for that.

  13. Yes , you are bang-on right there !

I've had a good play with it , including overnight on the car , which barely cranked over yesterday .....
.... probably because it's been standing unused for a fortnight or more .

I'm now testing the recovery mode on an AGM battery that a mate gave to me months ago ( because it wouldn't reliably crank his bike ) .

But the destructions that came with it are a bit unclear regarding AGM .

  14. Why would you put your hand in boiling water?

  15. An AGM battery is just an ordinary lead/acid battery that has been constructed using a more efficient design which enables less acid and more plates to be used which should give greater performance and longevity.

The one I am using is 10 years old and still going strong. The only downside is you will pay a premium for that technology.

  16. I saw this in Lidl today , and I've been following this thread -

    https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/what-tools-do-you-carry.79895/

I see that Leatherman keeps coming up ..... which is a smart call , if only for the usable pliers !

Anyway , this isn't one , but it's a pretty good copy , and it's a hefty chunk of stainless steel for only £5

There is a thrilling online review from some " Mr Excitement " type of guy .....

I guess most folk on here will already have these , but just in case :-

Range is 60 to 210 Nm
    £19.99 .

Ratchet straps .... mine have had a few years of tough use now , and I really rate them
£9.99 for a set of four

Smart battery charger .... still can't fault it in any way ( see earlier post )
    £12.99 this time around

Me , I'm watching out for axle stands ..... my pair must have had an argument
