Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Robarano, May 4, 2020.

  1. Some kind of a Honda 90 when I was 12 or so.
Yamaha RD 125 pretty sure I totaled that in a ditch somewhere
Suzkui X5 200 for a year or so, same result as the 125
Honda Magna when I lived in the Bronx for a bit after Ireland
    Aprilia Tuono Factory 2016
MV Agusta Brutale Serie Oro 2020

  3. The ones I can remember

    Teens
    - Yamaha DT125: crashed into a canal.
    - Unknown Honda MX bike: crashed then sold.
    - Kawasaki AR125: crashed into roadworks and written off.
    20s
    - No bikes, so I had to find other ways of trying to maim myself.
    30s (passed test in 2001, aged 31)
    - Yamaha Virago 125.
    - Yamaha Virago 535. Slightly embarrassing, but I (a) think they’re very pretty bikes, (b) didn’t know better at the time.
    - Suzuki Bandit 600. Had been a faired model but got dropped after only 800 miles which snapped a fairing mounting tab off the frame, so the insurer wrote it off. Someone bought it, removed the fairing and fitted Dominator twin lights, got the DVLA to give it a Q plate then sold what was basically a brand new bike to me for £500. Loved this bike. Sold.
    - Kawasaki Z750. Great bike but had a really hard seat and very oddly something about either the engine noise or vibration harmonics gave me migraines so I sold it.
    - Yamaha R6. First generation of the “new” shape bikes which revved like mad. Great bike but I found it a bit gutless and soulless as I had bought it to replace my (stolen) 996S so I sold it pretty quickly and bought a 748R.
    40s
    - Honda Hornet. Last of the “old” shape model, a facelift with USD forks. Bought it as a last minute stand-in for a trip with mates to watch the Le Mans 24 hrs bike race after I crashed my 748R a fortnight before departure. Intended to sell it when we got back but I liked it so much I kept it for 5 years. Soft spot in my heart for this bike as it kept me on two wheels, was my main form of transport during some really hard times and never let me down. Sold.

    - MV Brutale 750. Lovely, but the engine felt bland and there weren’t many custom parts on the market so I couldn’t really fiddle with it. Sold.

    - Yamaha Virago 535, modded to become a bobber. Loved this bike as I didn’t feel the need to ride it fast and could just chuck on an open lid and bimble around on summer days wearing a t shirt and jeans. Sold.

    - Suzuki Bandit 1200, cafe racer’d custom with GSXR1000 forks, clip-ons, shock, swingarm, brakes and wheels, plus Dynojet Stage 3 kit and a full exhaust system. Bought it to take part in the inaugural Cafe Racer Cup race in 2018 but couldn’t enter due to problems with the carbs. Entered the 2019 race but lost my grid slot due to an email going awol. Intended to enter the 2020 race but...”Covid”. Seems that it’s jinxed. Still have it and will see if next year is 4th time lucky.

    50s
    - Who knows? I turn 50 in a couple of months so maybe it’s time for a GS or failing that, a mobility scooter? ;)

  8. Oh and an mtx125

  9. You’re not that far from the truth there :yum

Plus, I don’t have pics of many of the bikes and my OCD was baulking at the thought of not posting a pic of every bike in the list. :worried:

  10. If you have a pic of it, post it. :)

@Exige did of all his, but he loves a picture, to be honest. : unamused:

  11. I don’t have pics of a lot of my previous bikes due to losing and rarely backing up phones (esp pre-smart phone devices) and digital cameras, so unfortunately a lot of photos are MIA unless they’d been specifically transferred to another device or posted to social media and recovered from there. EG: I can’t find any pics of the Bandit 600, the first Viagra 535, the R6 or Z750 on this phone but I do have a few pics of the Ducatis I owned at the same time circa 2001 - 2008.

I did toy with the idea of leaving the Viragos off the list btw but as a lapsed Catholic boy, I remembered that confession is good for the soul.

  15. Still have '76 gs

  16. No, it's standard wheel base - I just built it to be different. It was the first bike I know of with the shock under the engine - pre dating Buell and some spurious Honda that had one many moons ago. When I fist built it with the engine to this spec (Circa 185bhp) it still had standard forks and single piston callipers and was featured in Superbike Magazine - it still had it's Z1000A2 frame then as it's now in my Z1B.

That was me at 20 - I can still get the jacket on and zip it up too as proved in a different thread o_O

  18. That would have run some good times, a longer swinging arm and a bigger back tyre, must have been interesting though.

  19. Yeh, it was interesting - the 130 rear Pirelli Dragon didn't do well on traction: but I first built it in 1982 and that was about all you could get!
