The Queen

  1. In full dress regalia and it's HEAVY, even for 8 strapping lads, but there is not 0.000000000001% chance any of them would have an issue. A real honour for the individuals and a memory they will take with them for life.

  3. I was full of praise for the first horse rider in front of the carriage who despite the riderless horse to the right of him playing up for almost the whole duration, kept his nerve and composure for the entire journey, and he did look quite young. You even see the first two wheel carriage dart around a few times early on as a result of this. Absolute full credit to him.

  4. I was impressed by the three police outriders who led the hearse from the airport to the palace. Real close formation, slow speed and in the rain.

The solemnity of the whole occasion is so very fitting and I don't mind admitting I shed a tear or two watching the coffin lie in state with a full guard of honour.

    What a lady & what a life.

  5. We will never ever see her like again, utmost respect for her,
Been strangely deflated all week since she left us, one though that hit me the other day……

Christmas will never be the same without the Queens speech :pensive:

  7. Agreed, it was a regular feature at 3pm every Xmas afternoon in our family for as far back as I can remember, everything always stopped to listen to her ...I'm sure the new king will step into her shoes just fine :upyeah:...been a strange week for me too, somehow felt a deep sense of sadness and loss that I wasn't expecting.

  11. The troops yesterday taking HM to the Palace of Westminster were faultless, absolutely magnificent. Several of the bearers were only called back from Iraq on Friday.

my cousin’s son is recently commissioned into the Scots Guards, was super proud to do the ceremonial duty for the pageant earlier this year, he’s now also been chosen as part of the SG vigil party for HM, standing between midnight and 6am Saturday morning, very proud moment and something he’ll never forget. Pretty much everyone volunteered, wanting to do their duty and pay their respects.

here he is in ceremonial uniform

  12. Good lord! is that how long they remain motionless when standing?

  13. Has this changed yet or are we all still grieving?

  14. Aha! an ex army guy I work with said it's a six hour shift but there are 12 officers per shift..... so 20 on, 40 off.

    Even so...

  15. Whether grieving or not, why should it change to non respectful comments being allowed?

It's a rhetorical question by the way :upyeah:

  20. I were up at Oliver's mount today and there was 2 minutes silence for the Queen, which I were proud to adhere to, another minute silence at 8pm tonight, I'd just landed home, I obliged again.

Ducv2's screenshot above is very good, it sums our Queen up well.

We'll not have a monarch of such stature for a long long time.

William will make a good king when his time comes (I think).
