It is pointless when you seem to be this dismissive of information thats readily available, google searches will bring up a lot of it, but where you may not get a full engineering explanation of ancient methods is on a motorbike forum. -'how do they lift it onto wheels'....really? Are you still at primary school?
There are certainly the skills but not the money nor the will to build such things, certainly not in this country. The medieval church was far wealthier and more powerful than it is today. It could call on huge material and human resources. Modern masons repair these buildings constantly. There is no technical mystery to great cathedrals and every piece of stone can be and is reproduced today. Modern regulations would probably scupper any attempt to build a great Gothic cathedral in Britain now though. A building inspector would have a fit at the thought of unsupported fan vaulting. Not so (coincidently) in Australia. St John's Cathedral in Brisbane was finally completed in 2009, almost exactly 100 years after work commenced. I think I'm right in saying it is the most modern full scale Cathedral church built in authentic Victorian Gothic style in the world. I visited it in 2000 when they were putting the finishing touches to it and mighty impressive it is too.
Stone masons travelled building structures. These people were skilled, not every town or diocese had the skill to build such structures.
I'll not have people blaming booze. I simply won't stand for it. Not until I've sobered up a little, anyway.
