The ups and downs of my 748 track bike.

  1. Nice. Will we see you out on a trackday this year?

  2. ooh, yes. not mallory, i hate it there. snet was good, and is different now but quite a long way away. probably oulton or silverstone.

  3. Same here, don't like Mallory either. Last time I was there, this happened...

  4. Ooohh Dear! I bet that didn't end well, hopefully a low side, and not grip, then a high side? :frown:

  5. Don't worry too much, if the NIMBYS get their way it'll be shut soon :(

  6. Yes, low side at Edwina's. Popped the top-hat washer on the radial brake master cylinder and had to borrow a hair-band to stop the lever from flapping about ;)
Other than that it was just dented pride and apologising to Eric (#69) and Pete (#9) as they followed me onto the grass wetting themselves at my stupidity!

  7. Awesome thread love it when you see a project look so good, Also makes me miss me 748s that I paid 3 grand for and was absolutely immaculate would love to of tracked it, when I use to ride it on the road it made me feel like I was a hero lol!!

  8. Well, I have been back at work for two weeks, and had precisely half an hour spare to myself during that time. So today I have devoted the whole day to the bike. Its amazing how much time is spent just dotting the 'i's and crossing the 't's. When I got the bike running last, I used whatever hoses I had lying around for the water bleed and over flow, but now it has proper size rubber hose.

The rear cylinder has a high point that bleeds to the header tank. I think it is a slightly different setup on a normal road bike, but this is what I am using. I made this little adapter this afternoon, from stainless 10mm hex:-

And fitted. I guess a picture paints a thousand words:-

These are the little clips that I'm using, very small and very tidy:-

In other news, I found these rather nice carbon cambelt covers on feebay. Purely bling, but they are fantastically light.

  9. It wad dry enough to take a ride around the estate today. Didn't manage to get up past third, but she goes, stops, and sounds pretty good. The eprom isn't right, I had a look and its labelled as a 748sp, so the fuelling has a big hole low down, and i suspect the rev limit is above the safe area for standard steel rods.

Looking at different fairings as I never really liked the ones on there, the split on the side panels is too high up like road panels. Considering the CRC ones, they look good quality, and I think they are the ones we ran a few years ago on a 2CO R6, and they were brilliant. Any thoughts?

  10. Just bought a complete set of CRC 998R fairings for my 748R track bike. I'd descibe them as "light weight", the quality is better than some I've bought before and it's a bonus to have quarter turn screws already fitted to mst of the panels. You need to drill the screen holes in the front nose fairing and the two holes where the upper side fairing attaches to the frame. The race seat is most definitely not as rigid as my DP carbon fibre seat but it comes with a very nice foam seat pad that attaches with quarter turn fasteners to the seat. Downside no seat post fitiings so I gave up and decided to use my 748 Cup carbon DP seat instead. Finished in black and if you still want to use your side stand remember to specify that at teh time of buying - I forgot and will either have to modify the panel and catch tray or just go without the side stand. 11. Looks nice, just a few questions.
It looks like the frames been powder coated has that filled in the frame number?

secondly are the forks just standard Showa?

    cheer Craig.

  12. hey, thanks guys. i looked at the 'superbike bodywork' ones, they arent too far away from me. i might arrange a visit to have a look at them. by all accounts the crc items are by far the best, and worth the extra money. it is precisely the reason i want them, because there is no provision for the side stand. i could/will use it on the road eventually, and there is nothing cooler than not having a side stand....

the frame numbers are painted over, but still visible. i have a different frame that i will eventually swap everything over onto, i am in the middle of doing some small mods to it to tidy it up. then i think this red frame will be cut up for the top suspension mount to allow ross to fit the 999 swingarm to his ss. i will then use this headstock area as a jig for a couple of different aluminium header tanks im in the process of designing, and will eventually produce them for louigi moto.

the forks are indeed standard showas, and ross also has his eye on them for his ss.

  14. possibly. whats cooler than turning up at yours, with nowhere to lean the bike?

  15. It's fine, I got a stick you can prop it up with

  16. Is it true, that I cant help myself?

The last few weeks have seen a little bit of a spending spree, possibly not on what I 'need' to be buying, but on what I 'want'. I have wanted to fit Ohlins forks forever, but rarely find any with 108mm feet. These turned up on ebay in europe a few weeks ago. A bit of negotiation with the seller saw them on their way here.

Next to turn up was a set of rearsets. These are from 'bungibungi' on evil bay. They look just like the corsa ones from way back when, but with the added ability to run road shift pattern. Not enough mental capacity to safely learn race pattern at this stage...

Ross and I took a trip over to jhp this morning, to drool over the stock, and to grab some spare parts. I needed the brake lever pivot bolt to get these fitted, and got some other bit n bobs while there.

Still need a 56mm lower yoke and 1098 front axle to get the forks fitted. :)

  17. One step closer to summer, with the clocks going forward, and its definitely getting warmer. Ross needed the red frame for various mounting points on the back of his ss cafe-racer thing, so I swapped over frames last weekend.

Still need a few pieces, but they are all on their way.
