Well you know, I just feel that it would be really nice if the World Cup final was a beautiful match to look at and enjoy, whatever the contenders and end result is. Good sports, you know, with players respectful of each others, of the referee and respectful supporters as well. And I am not sure Argentina’s team has shown any will of playing nice. They call it “la grinta”… As far as France is concerned, tonight’s game against Morocco is what is expected to be the worst. 10.000 police troops mobilized to secure major cities. Not in Qatar. In France. French team captain has been interviewed this week and the whole team is expecting a “hostile environment” during this game. Not from the Moroccan players, but the from the fans. There are thousands of them living in Qatar all year round. So they had to get prepared for this too… Why do we have to use warfare vocabulary for a world sports event?
G69 is right. It’ll be a real cauldron in there tonight. Galatasaray style. I doubt many fans will be pissed so at least there won’t be flying coins and bottles for France to deal with. I hope France trounce them…
Given how Qataris generally treat workers from Maghreb (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria) on a daily basis, I can guarantee that if a bottle is thrown on the pitch by a Morocco fan, that will not be taken lightly by the local security. They know better. Same thing in Morocco. King Mohammed won’t take any shit from his subjects. In France though, it’s going to be the happy hour!! Feel free to destroy anything you can. Sheesh…
Sounds like France has the same problem as us. But I’m acutely aware- misbehave in certain countries and you’ll get your skull cracked.
Never mind that cr@p and the poofs rolling around like they have been shot by a sniper bullet every few minutes… Countdown to 26th March and some real sport
I didn’t get to see the Argentina v Croatia match yesterday as I was driving back from a hearing in Truro. I’ve just watched the highlights though and once again, I’m simply in awe of Messi’s genius.
What jammy bastards the French were tonight (again). Every time Morocco got into their box they didn’t get the run of the ball, yet a weak deflected shot from Mbappé ended up turning into a perfect assist. And that over head scissor kick which hit the post….
What I saw of this game. Last night, France had a better defense, if you include the goalkeeper (clean slate) and better attack (2 goals). As far as “jamming” goes, I’d say the Moroccan players were a bit more aggressive than the French. Griezmann and M’Bappé were pretty hard pressed, to the point one of the shoes of the latter was destroyed after repeated attempts to “jam” his sprints. I think the refereeing was great as they let both sides play most of the time (only one yellow card) and players didn’t complain too much. Imho, that was only possible because of the respect shown by both sides to one another. I don’t know if you noticed but they kept talking to each other (in French) which allowed them to vent off a bit without needing to engage with the referee. Giroud did that a lot. Overall in comparison with the Argentina vs. Netherlands game, this was a wonderful match.
