Thieving Scum

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Casp, Apr 2, 2017.

  1. The annoying thing is that I normally chain the TL and Kx together but due to old age and if I'm brutally honest the thought that it won't happen to me I hadn't this time. The Duc just had the steering lock on but now have got a couple of chains and ground anchors plus alarm, cctv to phone etc.

Only damage appears to be a scuff on the bottom rad. The bodywork is off just so i can have a close look plus give it a good clean.

I thought they would have tried to break the steering lock off but it all seems fine at the mo.

  2. A little while ago, someone mentioned a Soundbomb alarm that when it goes off in the garage, is so loud and disorienting that the scumbags just can't stay in there, they have to get out and escape.

  3. Have you had any luck with the police, finger prints etc.

  4. have you had any luck with the police showing any interest what so ever would be a better question! Im not anti police but I do feel that we are let down greatly by them as bike owners. They will spend all the time in the world trying to nick us for speeding or anything that takes their fancy ( earns money) but cba when our property is fucked with.

  5. To be fair they turned up and took a full statement first thing and did door to door enq's. Later on a PCSO turned up to do some more along with a SOCO but only glove marks were found. A second SOCO came round Sunday to do the bike and other property recovered Saturday night. The sad thing talking to them was the ridiculous amount of officers on duty and the actual size of the area the SOCO has to cover.

  6. you must live in a nice area! When my ss was nicked in Streatham ( Sth London) 13 years back they didn't even attend the scene. In fact I walked down to the cop shop, as it was 400 mtrs away and i had no phone... the officer at the desk got angry and asked why I didn't call so the could come and have a look.. I said you still can, its only the bike that is missing, the crime scene is still there. They didn't turn up at all.

  7. Or more to the point "shovel" !

  8. The police are a waste of time. It's only a matter of time before being a police officer will be a desk based job which will mainly involve dishing out crime numbers and motoring related fines derived from cctv and speed cameras. Catching the real criminals is considered too risky and too much hassle as doesn't generate any revenue.

My workshop was cleared out last year including my quad. The only way to stop them is to turn the place into a fortress. Luckily my workshop is at the end of a grain store which has 6 inch reinforced concrete walls which are 15 foot high. They came in through the weak spot - the door!. I've put a roller shutter door on now but also have laser beams across every angle of the yard outside linked to cameras both inside and out which alert me and 2 other people, but make no noise in and around the workshop or alert the intruders. I'm not going to go into detail but I'm not not going to try and scare them off. If they get in they will be trapped. There's no way out. I'll not say what will happen next but I'll not be hassling the police!!!.

  9. Soundbomb is what im having fitted (was supposed to have it fitted this weekend just gone) but was out most of the morning having some welding done on the z1000 - yeah - its that loud apparently thats what it does (cause the would-be-thief) to fall over - they must be fitted inside (illegal to fit externally as theyre so loud). Ive not had anything nicked for a long time (last time was 25 years ago) when my TDR250 got nicked from out side my then girlfriends house....coppers found it being used as a motorcross bike a couple of miles away - theres no more gutting feeling than getting your bike back wrecked...

Im extremely lucky to have my garage right next to the house and within a few metres of where i sleep. Rear exit is none existant with 3 flights of concrete stairs that are well steep then another 8ft drop into brambles and undergrowth. During the day there are people in across the road and to each side day in day out. Still getting the alarm upgraded none-the-less now.

Sorry for what happened but nice to see you got the pani back - i wasnt that lucky - mine was wrecked but at the time i was living in a bedsit, skint and only had 3rd party...took me months to get it back on the road...

  10. Do you have a link? I've been looking but can't find much. Are they hard wired into the electric?

  11. Here you go...

    Sound Bomb 2

    Yep- mains powered - 12v

This is where my alarm panel is from...
    Welcome to Texecom

  12. So my mate the alarm guy tells me anything thats wireless is a waste of time as it can be blocked and essentially circumvented...thats just what he says though...

  13. I expect he's right. And a decent one pro-fitted may help insurance. I wonder how many thefts are pro and how many are just thieving little twats that would do a runner at an alarm and go somewhere else?

  14. I have a ground anchor on each wall and have bothe front and back wheel chained to each wall.

I also have a Yale shed/garage alarm which seems to work quite well and is loud enough to be effective.

I'm actually thinking of putting a gate or bar across the front of the garage door also

  15. Criminals are scared of GPS trackers, thiink you got lucky it beeen left local.

  16. I think the safest way is to remove both wheels and leave one in the under stairs cupboard and one in the boot of the car.

  17. Do tracked bikes have a sticker saying "TRACKED" or similar?

  18. Problem is once they've broken in and seen what you're hiding is definitely worth nicking they'll be back better prepared, in the case of a sound bomb - ear muffs!.
