Sev. You misunderstand. Theyre way overpriced. Thats all. They are adding a premium for a notional value. A value they calculate you will pay over and above a normal markup. Their bottom line has been adjusted by a sucker factor. All i want is that they reduce the factor back to 1.
If anyone wants a premature coronary, just check out the configurator for the V4R. £988.00 for a couple of bar ends, carbon front mudguard, brake and clutch lever, fuel cap and dynamic indicators. You could shave a ton off that if you shop around and buy them individually. Other makes are available (and in some instances better). I see they are charging £129 for the lower (plastic) fairing covers if you fit the wheelbarrow exhausts, not sure why as you can still fit the lower Akra fairings from a pre-22 bike for the same price, though they wont have the vents. Interestingly, the Akra system will fit on pre-22 bikes as demonstrated here:
I wouldn’t compare the r1 to the Ducati for specialness for obv reasons, but yeah a r1m comes with Ohlins, and is pretty light and hood power and beautiful build quality. The wheels are also cast magnesium and pretty damn light, so again, I’m not comparing it to a Ducati for special factor but I have to say if I was doing loads of trackdays, up to super super fast pace, the r1m even new at £23k would easily get the nod for me
Speaking of exhausts the D200 termi system has very much caught my interest. It's also £2K cheaper than the Akra wheelbarrow equivalent.
It’s a great shame for genuine Ducati enthusiasts that they are going down the ‘Luxury’ brand route. The comments in this thread show that it’s ruining the joy of the brand. But it also distracts from the astonishing fact that it’s now possible to buy a production bike capable of 240bhp. Yes it’s a quite frankly ridiculous 6k for an exhaust. But……. Let’s take a moment to appreciate how amazing these machines are - we are seeing the final stages of evolution for the internal combustion engine and before long there will only be the whine of an electric motor instead of the quite frankly glorious roar of a V4 hitting 16500rpm. 16500rpm!!!!!!! Fucking Awesome!
I was watching an old MCN review of the previous V4R, which said it had 218hp and weighed 171kg. Is that right? The new one is 2kg more and the same power in standard form? Most of the stuff they are calling new seems to already exist on the current V4.
Listed just under £39k UK pounds over here, but depends on exchange rate I guess. I noted someones point about in stock form it has the same power as the last model... something that seems to have gone unnoticed by most
I think it was me that mentioned about the power, picked up from watching an old MCN review. That review also stated a weight that was less than the new one, albeit only 2kg. I had seen something about it being nearly 45K USD, so I wondered if the limit had been raised. I hadn't see a UK price for it but I've just had a look at the UK site and seen it. I've not seen it on a EU site yet. I just checked Germany and it's not there, but my SP2 has now gone up quite a bit! EDIT: Ducati's French website says 43,990 EUR... £39K would be about 45K EUR. Has the price cap been raised now? I also noticed a lot of specification info online for the previous V4R quoted 221hp...
