I received a card from the post office saying they had an item awaiting delivery, but required me to go to the local depot to pay outstanding charges
I paid the custom charges Apparently they said it was Vat and a handling charge A handling charge of £8 for a letter! RIP of Britain for ya!
I should get mine tomorrow. Received the £14.53 notification of customs charges so paid them and emailed Kevin @ Ducati Spacers, reply as below.... "Hi, We previously marked the packages as a lower value ($9.99) to avoid the customs fees, but for this new Spacer Kit SKU, the value defaulted to $36.99, and we forgot to change it on the first batch of kits that shipped out. I can refund you the customs charges, if you’d like! Thanks, Kevin @ Ducati Spacers" Drop him a line, he's very helpful and wants to do right by his overseas customers by the looks of things..
received the spacer kit 2day, and mounted it within 10 minutes. opened up the throttle body placed the spacer and closed everything again feels very nice and tight. will test it this weekend and am hoping on big improvements.
That's encouraging and makes buying a more attractive proposition. Who, in UK Customs, would question that lower value as too cheap as in reality that could still be seen as expensive for what it is. Not saying that the seller shouldn't charge what he likes for an item that he's done the R&D on mind you. EDIT: order placed.
Guys, Absolutely NOT trying to be a kill-joy here, as I have also voiced my concerns about the hiccupping throttle response with the 1260, ever since I got the MTS earlier this year and in spite of getting 3k + miles on it, the situation hasn't changed radically for me anyway. I also noted my interest in this mod, but a few thoughts spring to mind: Bearing in mind how litigious the US of A is, what confidence does this entrepreneur have to offer/provide with his product with respect to design, performance, quality and acceptance from the Ducati perspectives, particularly from an insurance point of view, if, god forbid, someone has an incident that could be directly attributed to this simple modification? Product Liability? Does the modification have any form of Ducati acknowledgement and verification in terms of suitability/acceptance? Is it something that owners would have to declare to their insurers as a modification and again, in the event, god forbid, someone has an issue, which can be identified as due to the throttle mod, would they, as we all know, insurers have a propensity to do, try to avoid liability and pay-out for any damage/loss? Would this mod, negate any warranty obligations from a Ducati perspective? As I said above, I'm seriously thinking about getting some of these to cure the awful throttle response the 1260 seems to have as I see it currently, but felt it relevant and important to put a few questions out there for consideration . Regards and good luck to those who fit these, I look forward to hearing back about how they perform. TonyN
Presume Ducati have received feed back from its 'customer base' of 1260 owners and really they should be the ones to come up with a solution to the 'snatchy' throttle. Like to think they are working on it!!!! Perhaps pigs may fly.
I get where you are coming from. I think you could possibly make similar points in relation to the exhaust valve mods/removal that many appear to have done, in as much as it changes the exhaust as designed by Ducati. Or taking it to the extreme, could it be said that changing the screen alters the aerodynamics which in turn could cause a problem? How far do you take it? If the gain in throttle control and response is as good as people are saying I for one am willing to take a chance on any repercussions. I can't see any way they can effect the actual use or reliability of the throttle itself, they simply pack out the unnecessary free space in the housing. When mine finally arrive I will see what difference they actually do make and decide from there.
Bloody good idea. Been thinking about the throttle slack on my Monster, I’ll try your suggestion. Thanks.
Got the card through the door with £14.53 charges and collected my spacers from the Post Office depot and paid the fee. I have contacted Kevin about a refund on the charges. The good news is the spacer works really well. The effect is exactly as described. It is much easier to ride the bike smoothly especially on the initial on/off of the throttle.
My tracking said the same back to the 27th September, so I imagine yours, or the card at least will be with you soon
Tracking? Caved and placed an order on Friday, presumably the seller notified you once dispatched and gave you a tracking number? Came as near as damn it to dropping the Mutley the other day exiting a junction into traffic with a big lorry hiding the oncoming traffic, stalled it mid turn. Finer throttle control at almost closed would have possibly prevented this from being an almost dropped it situation.
Can anyone update on the possibility of the refund of the £14.53 charges? I have paid the charges myself.
I paid the charges, but I don't expect the seller to refund them, he ships worldwide and can't be held responsible for different countries policies on imported goods. The item does exactly what he said it would do, makes the bikes throttle behaviour on shut off a lot better, if it didn't I would have a complaint.
