Thruxton R

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by Cream_Revenge, Oct 28, 2015.

  1. It's awesome! I'm just not sure if u already have a Thruxton if u aren't better paying for some carful updates or chop it in and go big for the new one!

  2. Its going to be all about the engine me thinks. The 865 was a bit lacking here and there and you are searching for 6th quickly. 1200 engine could be the ticket.

More than anything its nice to see triumph put some efforts into something other than another 57 Tiger variations.

  3. Bang on mate, took the Thruxton for its service on Saturday and literally spent 1.5 hours drinking coffee and staring at the 4 tiger models and aside from one not having fog lights I literally can't tell u the difference between any of them!!!!!

  4. How many horsies we talking here?

  5. They haven't said yet, my guess would be around 95hp but with monster 1200r levels of torque, maybe 90hp, either way it will be plenty quick

  6. Why is there an iPad attached to the front frame tubes?

It is pretty, though I don't like the indicators. They look like they've come out of a cheap 1990's custom catalogue.

  7. Well I am sold on it , can't wait to see it in the flesh.
So do I part ex or add another Triumph to my little collection ?
Garage really does need a sort out !

  8. The correct number of bikes is N+1 where N = the number of bikes you currently own...

  9. I'm a fan of the Thruxton. I'm not sure making it more "modern" is the right way to go, being retro is part of the charm. Having said that, most people do modify them & mine is no exception. I think a limiting factor is the frame; it that has been upgraded then I'm sure the Ohlins are a fine addition (they look great), but if not, I shouldn't think they will improve the ride much.

This is mine with the rear cowl removed for a passenger.

  12. Yeah, me too. I like it a lot.
Thing is though, it wouldn't do what the Explorer does, or what the 899 does, its a different species. So how can I justify / fit in / fund a 3rd bike?!

  13. Same, I just can't get rid of the 899 but I LOVE this, I dropped a few hints to the missus about a second bike, the sofa isn't very comfy!

  14. The wife asked me the other day what I wanted for Christmas ....... this would be a nice 'under the tree' present .

  15. So... If anyone wants to know if it's going to be a success, I'm not sure I have read one comment where someone doesn't think it's really nice, maybe some are unsure of price but seems to have been a really positive reaction.

This has a nice write up

  16. I wouldn't have one as my only bike. I had a thruxton and the last 6 months of ownership I was always frustrated by the lack of power the lack of agility.

They may have sorted the power on this but agility and weight will have a big hearing on how much you can get out of it. If you're just cruising round to your bros pad to talk beard oil though in sure it's fine.

  17. I think I prefer the new T120.

  18. Good God no! It has 2 Seats FFS!

Edit - so does Thruxton R, but I think we can keep that to ourselves.

  19. I'm as surprised as anyone really. Maybe I'm coming down with something.

  20. That video was all a little trendy for me. All the matching jackets and pre-customized puts me off. Bike modifications should be organic over time.
