Time To Name And Shame

  1. Lidl. I bought a dremel set along with a very nice bottle of wine. I'll have to see how it lasts but generally I find their stuff very good quality. The wine has of course evaporated by now but it was not to be mixed with tools anyway.

Also bought a torque wrench, a fantastic little digital angle finder and various other items from there.
I always find a trip to 'the middle of Lidl' a fascinating little treasure trove and it always changes. So you never know what you're going to find amongst the vegetables.
Other than that I try and stay out of supermarkets.

  2. ^^^ As someone else said it's the only place you can go for a loaf of bread and come out with a pillar drill!!!

I find Aldi much the same and have also had some good bargains on the tool and even the food front. They once had Wagyu Beef steaks at under £5, they sold in minutes needless to say.

  3. Funny you should mention the pillar drill, they had them in the middle of the Lidl I was in a couple of days ago. Trouble is I'm in Spain and can't get one in my luggage.

Top tip though, Lidl Greek yogurt, great stuff. Eat it, don't smear it on your bike.

  4. I bought a battery powered Lidls Dremel but the battery died after a year or so. Then I bought a transformer powered one but it has no torque - as you as you put any load on it, it just slows right down and even stops.
So now I have a dead Dremel, a relatively useless Dremel and a real Dremel plus loads of accessories!

i do have a really useful battery charger from Lidls though and various other things, like a digital calliper.
You just have to accept that whatever you are buying may be great but may also be useless.

  6. Yup Old fella you're right. You win some with them and you lose some with them.
Generally though I find their stuff good quality, especially for the money.
