Lol, I have my own experience of exactly the same guy. He got a fair old surprise when I door stepped him though!
Me bud made £250 from a no show, he paid then contacted me bud and said his Wife wouldn’t let him buy it, no refund. Same on my Fireblade that I bought from a dealer he’d took a deposit and the guy never contacted again. Strange folk out.
Maybe he got put off by a comment made on another thread about the standard of product in the for sale section?
There in fairness lies my mistake I use PayPal for everything this guy didn't have an account so I took it at face value he'd be here a long time and there were no complaints from what I could see ! Even with all the Ryanair hassle at the minute I've my money back for 6 separate flights because I paid with Paypal
Or a seller decides week before completion that he wants to delay the sale 3-4 months, when you have given notice on your rental and have all the moving vans booked etc. This happened to me in January after already waiting over 4 months to move house.
Yep selling can be a royal pita. A lot of messers out there. But just for balance I recently sold a high end car. A bloke rocked up for a look. We had a test drive. We got out the car he stroked his chin, we had a haggle and he landed the dosh next day! Easy peasy...
Yea for balance a buddy of mine called me in March and asked was i still interested In selling my gs theres a fella on ukgser sniffing around for a triple black , gave him a price 10 pictures he came down the next day haggled 250 of the price and transferred the money while we had a coffee and chat !! He collected the big aul beemer a week later ! So the majority of transactions are positive !!
I've had a few but thats also maybe due to my knowing that even if something looks a little too good to be true, PayPal will refund me if I don't literally get the goods.
Forums. Facebook. eBay. All full of wasters. I’ve been guilty myself, having thought ‘yeah, fancy that’ then exchanged a few messages and things and decided it wasn’t for me. I’ve also agreed to buy stuff which is delivered rather than collected, great exmaple the aerokit I have, and when it turned up I wasn’t as happy as I thought is was misdescribed or not the condition I was lead to believe but I’ve still come thru the deal. If I was that worried, I should get off my arse and look before or ask for even more pics or videos. Same with my gixer tbh. Both these items cots £2500 and I still paid as I felt obliged.
Only had one chancer on Ebay out of thousands of sales - a guy from the Czech Republic bought some 999 belts through Ebay, 2 months later he said he hadn't received but raised a case with PayPal as his Ebay time limit had run out. I had the tracking with proof of his receipt so he didn't get anywhere. A few years ago I sold an Audi RS4 V8 engine with 7000 miles on it. Sold it for £3000 and took a deposit of £500. He arranged pick up about 3 times and cancelled. Then said keep the £500 as he can't get to pick it up due to circumstance changing. I sold it again for £3200 so bagged £3700 in the end
And thats what a deposit is a commitment to buy !! Some lads want you to hold a few quid while they talk the misses around ! I have a grand on a superduke we just got locked down for another 2 weeks so I'm half thinking by the time the bike lands I might be better waiting till next year plus god knows if I'll be allowed ride it anywhere ! So if I cancel I'll loose my grand as I'm changing the deal !
