The only sour experiences I've had with: eBay - a motorcycle dealer sending me a "signs of wear" front-brake reservoir and brake lever. When it arrived, it transpired that half the lever had been snapped off. A very clear sign of wear. Forum - someone sent me some parts which were not exactly what I was expecting ... but they were in fact, as he had described. My fault for not being attentive.
Is that how it works with Paypal? I paid for something that might of been on here and for something about £25, it was about £9 in fees! Afterwards, I was told that I should done it as "friends" to avoid the charge. It wasn't an issue but if I had paid as if it was to a "friend", then you can't get PayPal involved if it goes to sh1t?
PayPal costs are about 3.5% - friends and family gives you no comeback but no fees - on here I sell this way as it's part of my recovery costs for the discount, and everything is sent Signed for and insured so no risk to the buyer or me in my deals Your £9 in fees on £25 is not correct.
If you send as friends and family there's no fee, if you just pay as a normal transaction the fee is paid but that should cover you if you contact PayPal in a reasonable amount of time. You can still get scammed though as usually through eBay they'll side with the buyer. Australia when I was flipping bikes was the worst of destinations for getting shafted. In the end I just refused to ship there, the Far East countries were great to deal with always top bidders for old school steel cycle frames of a certain brand.
I've only had positive deals both ways on this forum. The couple of sales I made last week were first class.
I can’t stand people who say “I’ll have to ask the wife” or “the wife says I can’t have it” grow up or grow a pair you loser , can’t do with em
If you send as "Friends" there is no comeback whatsoever and PayPal will not reimburse you. If you send as a service, a fee is levied because its an insurance against the seller being a turd. On here if I have some knowledge of the seller, I might pay the fees, if I don't know the seller from Adam/ new member, I don't take the risk and send money as a service.
Yeh, I was putting it in a Lotus '78 F1 replica I was going to build - but due to time constraints (as you can see from my bike build) I had to ditch the project.
Yeah, so it makes sense to use "friends and family" if you are dealing with someone from the forum AND not if it was a stranger. I may well be wrong about the amount in fees that I paid. I could look it up but I'm not THAT interested. I did get scammed a few months back on eBay and I had paid Paypal. I contacted e Bay first and they refunded me straight away. I was quite surprised as eBay don't have the best of reputation, but they seemed to want to help and improve their reputation. I was quite surprised. My next port of call would have been Paypal but I never needed them!
ebay have always sorted everything that scammers tried on me. It can take a little while for their process, but so far so good. Plus like you, PayPal is my backup.
I bought a 3.5mm torx bit off Amazon 4 weeks ago. No show so I contacted them for a refund (only £7). They said it was posted second class and would show up. We agreed that they would refund me and if it showed up I would let them know / return it. The day after the credit was applied to my card it arrived! I called them and paid straight away. Everyone is happy. Treat people as you would like to be treated yourself.
