Todays the day

  1. It's a great looking bike. The PP is by far the best Mutley colour scheme. If I had one of those I'd feel like immediately visiting most of Europe (starting with Spain where it might be more than 13°).

  2. Off to Germany via Holland on Thursday, should be fun  Long weekend away !

  3. Way to go! Fit in the Black Forest.

  4. What's the weather doing down your neck of the woods. Down at Annecy soon.

  5. A bit grim, I'm sorry to say.

13° and windy here today. So far managed to have 2 BBQs this year which is nothing. Forecast is for colder weather this week. Snow forecast from 1000 to 800m end of week. Considering that the lowest point in Switzerland is 420m and I live at 620m, that isn't good. Doubt it will be snowing in my garden, but there is plenty of higher ground nearby.

This has been a very long winter and a cold and miserable spring.

Of course, in a weeks time, it could be 25°. You just never know. I live in hope. Enjoy your trip, whatever the weather does.

  6. Sorry to be a pest but if there is one road to ride within a days ride around Annecy what would it be. (Rubbing my hands in anticipation).

  7. Wow. That is a tricky one, because one day around Annecy includes most of the Alps, if you're happy to have a long day.
    I always recommend http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorcycle-Journeys-Through-Alps-More/dp/1884313701/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369089116&sr=8-1&keywords=motorcycle+journeys+through+the+alps+%26+beyond

It really is a hugely useful book.

A ride you could do is Annecy - Cluses - Morzine - Abondance (you take the Thonon road and branch off right) - Monthey (CH). That takes you through some very twisty stuff, through some gorges and over a pass.

From Monthey, - Aigle - Gstaad (over the col du Pillon). Then you could visit Gruyères (walled mediaeval village + cheese factory if you're inclined). Or you could add a few kms and go to Fribourg (be sure to see the old town if you do - by the river). Then there are many roads back through the Canton of Vaud towards Geneva and a quick scoot down to Annecy.

Most of the passes I do are the Swiss ones, but getting to and from them from Annecy without doing the boring Rhone Valley motorway is a challenge. I've done the big French cols like the Galibier and the Iseran which are recommended, but perhaps you have too. From Lausanne, that's not really a feasible round trip at a comfortable pace in a day.

If you've never been to the Swiss Italian canton of Ticino, try to fit it in. Ascona is a nice place to go.
