Ah - good - i suspected that was the case...brilliant thanks for the confirmation. The nut: Hmm - if theres not one in the local shop i might had to go with mine (getting one from italy now would be pointless - in that it'd probably turn up next year...) so if i can get one, great. If not ill use mine and replace at a later date... Thread lock: i always get mixed up (red or blue) although white was on there originally..? (looks that colour anyway). Torque wrench: not check mine yet but i will tonight... Thanks very much for the replies back...mucho appreciated.
Full of questions arent i - looking through the parts listing for the nut....which i cant find...im presuming this is quite a generic part...?
Comfysofa, the nut is a special one but is generic to virtually all Ducati models form the 916 to very recent bikes. It has a light interference fit on the crank threads and should not be reused that much, if at all. It is usually shown on the parts fiche crankshaft page (fiche 6 on most of the 748-1198 books) It is shown with a part number 7501022A but has been superseded with the later version 75010121D. As it is a service item, places like Moto Rapido should have good stock so give Craig or Luke a call on 01962 873981 and look on the parts fiche to check that is the nut you need. here http://www.motorapido.co.uk/pages/parts-and-accessories/parts.htm They will get one to you next day delivery if you order before 1600 ish
Turning out to be the most long winded job ever...ordered the flywheel holder which, doesnt really fit....it was advertised as fitting a hypermotard, contacted the seller to see what he says. It kinda locks in but only on one side and only on one bolt....not sure if thats enough to hold it...
One good bit of news is a lad at work has a torque wrench that goes up high enough so hes bringing that in tomorrow....
You might get away with it but be careful when your hanging on that torque wrench. That tool is definitely not the correct one, it should be a good fit around the alternator.
Yeah - it locks in alright....problem is, with the current climate sending it back and getting another one might not happen for a good long while as it all slows down....
I would say it needs to locate both sides of the flywheel otherwise yoy risk bending the crank. If you undo it from the case can you get both flywheel location screws in equaly & use a drilled plate from the crankcase to the tool to hold it or re drill the tool arm to slign with the case hole?.
It should have two screws that engage with the holes in the rotor. If you wind the one out that you have engaged, the angle of the crank will have to rotate anti-clockwise and you should be able to engage another screw ( if there is one) in the threaded boss at the 5 o’clock position.
Picked up the Uber torque wrench today, company i bought the flywheel holder from said there was one other size which i looked up which looked completely wrong so im a bit stuffed at the moment....find another or go with the half fitting one.... Just to complicate things more....i spoke to Rich at louigi earlier on and explained i was doing the sprag job and asked for any advice he had to which he said...." have you taken the spring out in the sprag...?" - no obvioulsy to which he went on to explain that he removes the oem spring that holds all the bearings in place and replaces it with a rubber band....something to do with over heating....so, taking his advice ill be going down on saturday morning to get that done.... Powder coating bloke will know tomorrow if the coating has taken as its going in the oven tomorrow....
Well, this has gone on from "how tight do those bolts go...?" Collected the powder coated generator case from Warren at RPA - absolutely amazing job....
