Update: well I kept on trying and instead filled the tube with oil, I figured it would be harder to suck through.... And it worked. I managed to find a mid point on the throttle bodies... Pretty happy. I then returned the bleed screws to their original position, which wasn't quite enough, 0.5 turns later and yippee - the thing idles the first time in a long time. Hope this helps someone.
