Just discussed this with Mrs T and after a slight pause she says "but you love the Triumph. Why don't you keep it and just buy a track bike? If you don't want the track bike in 6 months, you'll still have the Triumph." Bloody love this woman!
Not sure. Quite like the look of an older Honda 600 for starters. I guess I could look at an sv650 supertwin type?
If the tuned motor goes pop, just fit a standard one. most bikes have more performance than needed IMHO
Buy an old DD bike, always a few 620's knocking about and if the ham fisted lot racing them can't kill them, I doubt you will ...
Just get a jap thou and be done with it. My R1 starts every time, goes like stink compared to newer bikes and was simply a well loved road bike. I still get it MOT'd each year just to keep some value there and still to this days it's only done 11k. Cost me £2500 and is still worth £2500 as and when I put all the road parts back on from up in the loft. Unless you're going out to try and break records, or to race I don't see why a perfectly good road bike can't be used. Ok get the suspension sorted and change tyres, add steering damper and maybe upgrade the brakes but to be honest I can run with bikes 10 years newer in fast group and whilst I might occasionally lose out on some straights I can hold my own the vast majority of the time. Track days are meant to be fun, i see plenty of people measuring out fuel and all sorts nowadays when the reality is nobody's even timing them. Just get something you can enjoy
+1 on the R1. Ive a 1999 R1 which ive had since 2001 and they are awesome bikes. On the road its quicker than nearly all other bikes ive come up against, but then again it might just be down to the rider. These days you can pick them up for around the £2000 mark which is extremely good value for money. They are easy to work on - i swapped out the entire engine on mine in a few hours, loads of bits available for them and easy to tune up if you get an early carb one like mine.
Ignore them, get something which isnt scary and you can explore the limits on. Less power, more chassis
Thanks for the heads up @wantz1. I quite fancy a 2005 zx6r in the future. I have a feeling they had a slipper clutch as standard... At least the one I rode did! My limit is going to be a couple of grand (maybe 2.5) in a couple of months time. Probably the worst time to buy.... Middle of the summer and all that! A DD bike could be fun I reckon.
Fuck that sensible shit... Get something mental. Once you get dialled in with a wanky SV650 you'll soon get bored with getting blasted down each and every straight. And remember kids, scary is good....
If you can get a bike capable of 140 it wont get blasted on many circuits if you ride the thing well in the corners and corners are where the fun it...the straights just get in the way
Just bought an NC29, track ready with a CBR600RR rear shock and sorted forks complete with spare wheels, discs, wets and spares for £1000. Previous owner claimed 70hp and that he routinely ran with the fast group on short tracks. He does race 600s though. At Brands on Tuesday so we'll find out. Andy
I converted this little fella from my Aprilia supermoto last winter its 120kg wet and 70 bhp its a mental little tool and cheaper to throw down the road than the R. Must admit tho I get seriously mugged on corner exits but that's where the fun starts again.
Yes, the corners are fun alright.... But I see you don't ride a 125. Cos lets face it, we all love a snarling beast!
Looks like Barn at Cadwell. And the photographer is in a dodgy spot. I've lobbed it there and slid right along that line....
Only because I am trying to learn to ride something bigger, given I am bigger and would like to even the odds a little! lol My preference, and most experience, is on a 50hp monster
