Track Lap Times?

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by JoePeps, Jun 13, 2022.

  1. I’m not surprised at those times @JoePeps you’ve had more track time than Dovizioso this year

  2. And that’s a pertinent point. Lap times tumbling and seat time are related I’d say. Everyone’s quicker on the last day of a euro gig compared to the first day.

  3. Exactly. Track time with right building habits means faster times. Spence was quick enough but he is 30% faster since he went endurance racing and seemed to be on track somewhere every week. You simply get used to hard braking, using markers and know where the road goes. It’s why some specialise at circuits , like Silverstone, but when you get them somewhere else they struggle to be at the same pace

IMHO good suspension, right habits to enable going fast, lots of track time. I’m that order :upyeah::upyeah:

  5. That’s similar to mine at Donny Snett and Cadwell. Haven’t done Silverstone in years and I haven’t ridden the other tracks. Bog standard V4S for me although I find I bottom out the suspension especially at Donny so I need to adjust my style I think.
My mate had a day with Spike and went from a .46 to a .39 at both Donny and the next time he visited Cadwell.
But indeed you can’t bank it coz he hasn’t ridden for almost a year and is back down to a 44

  6. Okay @JoePeps I'll indulge you... I did a 2:14 at Snetterton on Tuesday, which is miles off your time, but in fairness I claim to be mid inters and there were guys in the fast group lapping slower than I was.. I lapped in the last session with a guy who said his best was a 2:19, but honestly following him around was an eye opener that we weren't hanging around still at that pace.

There was a fast (and WAY too aggressive) lad on a Daytona 675r in the earlier sessions who passed me and I would say he was probably at 2:08/10, he got moved up to the Fast Group and looked quick even in that group tbf.

At the same time... there were people in my Inters group who were probably lapping 3min laps, honestly.... Including the guy I had to wave off the track because he was on a sh*tbox ZX6 carby and everytime he shut the throttle he was just pouring fuel out over the rear tyre and track.. Another bug bear, people taking sh*t bikes on track and doing it like some sort of badge of honour.

This all said... the two times I've been to Snetterton I've noticed the pace is a bit slower, less racers, and in general less people, which really suits me. Donnington fast group every time you go is like a NoLimits/Bemsee race meet and you end up with 60 people crammed in inters.

  7. Not too shabby at all. Been cycling long?

Only kidding, everyone knows I’m a cvnt. You’d probably beat me tbf… :D

  8. im in.....

    Donny GP 1.39.71 (BMW S1000RR)
    Snetterton 2.01.23 (Ducati V4)
    Cadwell 1.36.41 (Yamaha R1M)
Anglesey - Not been in years.
Oulton - There on 5th July so will update
Silverstone - Hopefully there in September on the Ducati day so will update then
    Cartagena - 1:42.98 (1199)
Portimao - 1:57.18 (BMW S1000RR) Timing system failed on day 1 so who knows if i went any quicker.

But its only a bit of fun, but always nice to know you're times get a little better with every trackday you do.

  9. Jeez... I mean, I know I can go maybe 3-4 seconds quicker around Snett with some consistency and a sorting a few corners (turn 1, 3 and Corums) but a 2:01, hard to imagine that tbf.....

  10. Its even worse at Snett, when you think you're on a storming lap and Phil Seton flies past you like you have parked up for a sandwich :sob: :joy:

  11. He's fast then? I need him to remap my R1 so I'll try to find him stationary at some point"

  12. yeah mate, fast and smooth. would think hes capable of consistant 1:54/55's, but racing is another level to us track dayers.

  13. was going to say, fastest lap in the BEMSEE Powerbikes was 1:53 I think in May, my mate lapped 2:04 in the race, in fairness without the use of his legs, so pretty good going! so yeah we all have things to aim at hahaha

  14. @Phill748
    A comparison for you.

Inters myself, mid group I guess judging by the number coming past me v’s number I pass. Old duffer, gsxr750

    This year:-

    Donny 1’ 55”.
Snetterton 1’ 22” (bit nervous here due to previous crash)
Bedford. Slow as Fvck. First time there and first time on bike. Novice group too. Don’t know the time.
First visits to Oulton and Cadwell to come but won’t be anything other than slow with a capital F. Silverstone later too where I should be respectable mid inters.
Donington is the track I know best and I more than hold my own in inters there.

  15. Word of caution. Chasing times when not racing can lead to far less fun days out and far more disappointment. And crashing.

  16. Makes it far more fun and 100% worth crashing for :joy: stop trying to ruin everyone’s fun @bradders. You even been out on track on my old 1299 yet?? :joy:

  17. Make sure to ask for the 270bhp super map which only works on his dyno

  18. Im heavier than ideal so do bottom the front out, but having some new springs in the front with a suspension service next month so hoping that will at least make me more comfortable on the brakes.

Hell of an improvement that! Definitely need to get it sorted next year and take full advantage.

If you’re fairly confident mate then I’d consider going up, I got so much quicker in advanced as you get pulled along and less hold ups which really helps your times.
I found inters pretty dangerous as people think they know what they’re doing but haven’t got a clue, generally speaking in advanced the passes are better and a lot safer.

Agreed on shit bikes, as twatty as it sounds there’s none of that at Silverstone as I guess it prices a lot of people out so there’s a lot of expensive and well maintained metal there.

I also mostly book with MSV direct, the days are quieter and less racers from the NL series so the days are better, plus a shitload better organised that NL in my opinion.

Great times! Definitely what I’d like to aim for but I don’t think I’ll ever match your Cadwell time even if I lived there!

Portimao I did a 2.08 a few years ago but I’m a different rider now so I think a sub 2 should be doable. I’m back there in September and can’t wait!
