1200 Enduro Trading From A 1200s

  1. Still got the Elefant, it turned my head away from sports bikes but I still have the 916 and 888 when I feel the need for backache, wrist pain and cramp!!

  2. Not jealous much! I've recently acquired an M600, which has served nicely to remind me how good the Enduro is - but also just what a wonderful engine the old 2V is.

  3. No problem with mountains. Fast an furious it goes. Dropped forks 5mm and raised rear preload. Harden front and rear suspension in sport mode too. In addition use some road tires. Road attack 3, pilot 5, Angel gt2. All better than the scorpion trails fitted so long you stick on asphalt.

  4. Interesting you say that - what sort of mileage do you get on road rubber? I'm on my second set of Skorpions, and I tend to get around 6000 miles from the rear tyre, which I find extraordinary, and way more than I've seen on other bikes. Apologies - slight thread hijack there.

  5. Depending on pace anywhere between 4500 and 5500 km.

  6. I'll stick with the Scorpion Trails I think. I was getting around 4000 miles out of a rear on the Monster and MTS1200S with Angel GTs. I've not felt like the Scorpion Trail is a worse or less grippy tyre. Perhaps the longer life is purely down to deeper tread.

  7. Thanks for all the advice, experience and opinions guys.
I’ve done the deal and am picking up a MS 1260 Enduro on Tuesday.
I know, I know I said I didn’t have the money for a 1260 but I made the mistake (!) of riding one - 1260 engine another level from the 1200 so I’m all in!
Slightly anxious mbout the weight when loaded with touring gear but be nice to try something different

  8. You'll probably drop it - I have a couple of times, and I'm 6'2, so I'd definitely recommend crash bars and bark busters. It'll make you a better rider - you get better at anticipating camber and dodgy surfaces.

  9. Evotech handguards already on order
    Cheers

  10. Dropping mine is a worry, but 14000 miles later still ok.

Did you manage to pick it up on your own.

  11. I’ll wait for that post next week then :confounded:

  12. On one occasion I had no alternative. Middle of nowhere on a rocky trail in the middle of Dartmoor, with the bike lying downhill, and a sore wrist. Surprising what you can achieve when you have no alternative.

  13. I did, going from a 2010 MS S, to a 2017 Enduro 1200. The bike is way slower handling, wheelbase and 19" front, but once you adapt to the change, the Enduro can be hustled along rapidly enough? Enduro power delivery isn't as exciting or 'raw' as the original MS lump. The Enduro is a much more complete package, especially around the electronics (cruise control good etc) but still suffers from poor aero (noisy screen etc). Love the tank range (did Worcs to Lyme Regis and back on a tank last weekend), but need to be careful when full and bike fully loaded, as it weighs a ton!
Mine just coming up to 3 years old and has halved in value, so wished I'd bought 2nd hand, but just about to change tyres at 9k miles, chain is good, only 'problem' so far was a sloppy cush drive, so overall I'm happy with the Enduro.

  14. I managed to get a 1260 and rode it home 210 miles last night in torrential rain!!
So far, really pleased with it, a bit lower than the 1200 so I spent all I could and went for the 1260!
Just needs that screen position sorted with a palmers products adjuster and it’ll be perfect

  15. I've done a bit of experimenting and found that a screen extender thing does the trick with wind noise.

  16. yeah, after a lot of gaffing on my last bike I found the palmers adjuster with Puig sports screen and option of a Puig wind deflector the best combo for me.
It’s a lot of effort in a premium bike, you’d think they’d get it right at the factory!

Thanks for the pointers and advice, glad I made the change

  18. Nice! I’d like one of these one day!

  19. Had mine 17 months now ... was originally chasing a 1200 enduro then sat on the 1260 enduro ... had a test ride and found the position much nicer and the weight seemed lower down from the 1200 enduro. Also the bike itself sits lower ... i pop it into Urban mode and it lowers it even more and the throttle is super well behaved makes parking up easy. I also fitted the throttle spacer and that makes a noticeable difference. Super bike very nimble. I added Touratech bars from the off ... also picked up Jamie Claires rad guards they are brilliant absolutely top notch.

I also bought the normal multistrada panniers as i do not like the lack of symmetry from the large metal boxes ... finally recently added the SHAD 39 top box .. which is perfect for a helmet ...
