Trickle Charger

  1. Thank you mate. Very helpful.

  2. Having become the proud owner of an 899 in the regrettably somewhat out-of-season month of October, I too have been trying to figure out how to connect it up to my Optimate because it's not getting ridden enough in this weather.

Having started by finding the Ducati charger (and learning about the DDA plug under seat), but being reluctant to fork out for it when I already have an Optimate, I looked everywhere for an Optimate lead that connects to the DDA plug under the seat, but damned if I could find one for sale anywhere.

Having found this thread, I bought one of those DDA connectors but, knowing nothing about electronics, I couldn't figure out how to wire it into the Optimate, and the internet hasn't quite got me there. What do you do with those metal terminals that come with it? I assume that you connect those to a wire (crimp and solder?) that connects to the battery charger, wiring an appropriate connector (TM-71?) on the other end, but what then? Do the metal terminals just push into the plastic bit of the DDA connector or do you need to do something else? I then partially broke the DDA connector trying to get into it to figure it out.

So in the end, I just connected a standard Optimate lead directly onto the battery, which, in case anyone else is having the same thought process, I can say is dead easy and doesn't require the fairing to come off. Turns out the battery isn't under the seat where I am used to from other bikes but on the left hand side at the front under the fairing with one pop-off cover and one that screws off with an allan key.

Anyway, hello everyone, looking forward to being a member of the forum and riding the bike a bit more when the weather picks up.
