I came across this discussion in my search for info on the Bayliss 998. I'm in Australia and have been looking for a 998S for several weeks but kept missing out. So bit the bullet and put a deposit on the Bayliss 998S at Dreamcycle in New Zealand. Standard 998S are going for low to mid 20k AU in Australia (11-14k GBP ). A guy offered me his 998FE for 37K AUD (21K GBP )a few weeks back. Someone else offered me his 998 Bayliss for 25kUSD. Therefore I'm looking at where these prices are heading and bought the Bayliss at 30K NZD (around 15500 GBP). By the time it is landed in Australia with taxes/duty/compliance and registration it will owe me about 36K AUD (20K GBP) It has the 3 piece fairing which indicates its not a USA model(which have the CF fairing.) He says it's a deep sump 998S and will send me pics to confirm when he pulls the fairing off for me.
They are now quite a rare bike. I doubt very much I would find another that was in such immaculate condition as the one I sold. If I find one that’s better , then yes I would consider buying it, but it would have to be very low mileage and in perfect condition , deep sump model with all history available. Presentation plaque and No 21 998s Bayliss cover.
I think I will try and hunt down a 998R , then at least it’s an upgrade from the 998S Bayliss which I sold
