Fuel pump and coils are both off the same supply through the relay. If the pump runs then it proves relay , but if you disconnect the fuel tank when trying a spark test it would route all the power through the coils . If 12v is ok and ground then it can only be the signal (or both coils , very unlikely)
@Pras I'm truly sorry to hear that it's come to that , but I understand your frustration . Be sure to keep them on a very short leash , and give them a written list of all the things you have tried from following the sage advice given by members on here , otherwise they will waste the first 3 or 4 hours repeating the exact same things , and bill you for it . There's no shortage of over-priced half-wits working at Ducati dealerships .
@Pras , I assume you mean Maldon? I'd swerve them mate (my own experiences not great as they had my 1098s for >3 months) and look up Glenn at Motor V near Colchester. You may have to wait a week or so but it'll be worth it.
Good stuff. If you don’t know him Glenn is a good fella. The Maldon lot have nobody in the workshop with older bike experience.
...for the sake of a 5 quid spring (basic first test) and a couple of hours, I'd be in there changing it.
Update: Just spoke to the specialist: Short in the rectifier/regulator caused no spark. - also caused the oil light not to come on on ignition on.
Hmmm.... so does that mean the reg/rec popped after you finished your last ride and parked up? Latent heat from the engine, ambient air temperature & no air flow was enough to cook it? Or perhaps it popped during the ride but it had enough to get home. I must admit I've taken to switching on and directing the fan heater (set to cool) to the reg/rec when I park him up in the garage on these hot days.
