  1. Very funny thread -

Honestly i think he is right. I bought a 1098 s this year and spent money on "tarting" that instead and bought a 1100 evo monster to commute on instead of buying the panigale. WHY, well i rode one and i wasn't blown away, it lacks something i don't know what it is. granted i have not been lucky enough to take one out on a extended test and i would still be keen as from a looks point of view its stunning - ESP the one I saw in black coming off the M1 J5 a couple of weeks back!!

I also bought a 1100 monster evo to ride to work and back every day. Baron asked if it was a bike you could live with every day and the simple answer is NO. I also think the 1098 s is not a bike you could live with every day, but thats why i have the 2 different machines.

I have also been surprised at how many panigale owners who are mates of mine are underwhelmed and disappointed, look at the volume of second hand bikes on ebay - you don't get rare bikes like that (in those numbers) coming up with 1000 ish miles on if there really good and i mean 20k good.

The bike is beautiful, sounds great and makes you smile just sitting on it, but its not an every day bike, its not something everyday riders can use but i don't think its supposed to be - the S 1000 RR is a totally different machine and in every way apart from looks is better than the panigale from a i commute, i sunday blast and i do track days point of view.

As for the baron, thank f**k for him, he's funny, talks bollocks and when it comes to bikes seems to have a lot of similar views as every day jo blogs. I say give the man a round of applause for having the nuts to give a honest review without worrying about what "Ducati" might think. Bravo!

  2. I think if i had the money then i could commute on my RSV4 but it would be financial madness - either that or my licence would go. I keep the usage of it down to a minimum as the more i ride it the more cocky i get and on something like that i could be fatal. If i dont ride it for a while i have to go steady on it to kind of get used to it again....otherwise its fine....did the TT on it last year 800 miles round trip - thought i was going to end up on a spinal board by the end but it surprised me...comfortable.

if i had the money i love one for exclusivity of it - ive only ever seen one on the road...mind you i havent seen many more RSV's...

  10. Lot of talk on the s1000rr,i have just test rode one this afternoon, just to put my mind at rest i did the right thing ordering a 899,i like the looks of the srr not as pretty as the panni but certainly no dog,on start up the sound is mundane compared to the Ducati, clicked it into first went to put my feet up,where the fuck are the footrests oh right up there,30 seconds later had to pull over cramp in my hip lol and where is neutral?i don't think the srr has one,on the move again on the outskirts of the city centre, stop start was hard work as the foot pegs just arnt right and wtf is that indicator switch all about you almost have to let go of the throttle to use it,got out of town onto a section of duel carriageway and wow i cannot put into words how fast this thing is and the soundtrack is pretty cool when going up the gears ala quick shifter. In my opinion and i state my again, the srr aint no commuter its just to uncomfortable the indicator position is just annoying and there is no neutral, what it is,is a sportsbike a adrenalin pumping fast as fuck sportsbike, will i buy one, no,its just fast and that's it.The 899 felt just right for me and its a bike that will have me popping into the garage to make sure its happy keeping my multi company.

  17. which really is what is what i was saying..as long as youre happy with the 899 then thats all you need to worry about. its your money, and its you who is walking into the garage.
as someone else said on here, they dont really build 'bad' sportsbikes any more, and it takes the best in the world on a track to draw differences between them , and even then its 10ths...
to the next person, that Beemer is the prettiest bike ever made with a wonderful character of its own, and with a distinctive exhaust note....
i had a long term loaner GSXR thou a few years back...blindingly fast but totally anonymous...i was simply a passenger...an irrelevant exhaust note, no communication through the frame, but crazy numbers appearing on the dash..every bit as fast as my 1098, but without any of the theatre...why would anybody want one? well, plenty of people do, and they love them...personally, its not for me..im not interested in top speeds and lap times..im interested in how the bike makes me feel...im not a racer, im a recreational rider who wants some escapism.
I cant tell what il4 is what when i hear one go by..all i know is, if one has got a fruity pipe on it..

  18. been checking out some BVG videos, very funny, especially the GSXR off road, I feel your pain, love green laning

  19. Id say funkyrimpler has a point.....there aren't really any bad sports bikes any more but some bikes stand out in some roles....eg:

    1. Go to the TT usually its a fireblade that wins the 1000cc races (quite old now - no tech) yet still seems to rule the roost on that front.
    2. 24hr endurance - usually won by GSXR's
    3. Superbikes - normally ZX10's/RSV4's

It seems to me that some bikes stand out doing some specific kinds of job, ironically ducati doesn't seem to excel in any of them but it doesn't stop me liking them. Cant see myself getting rid of my Hyper 1100evo...if anything I cant stop spending money on it....!

If I was going to get something else to replace my RSV4 - another one (aprc) or a blade....

And just to add to that (while i was thinking about it BMW for all of its tech and "ruthless German engineering" doesnt seem to excel either in any front....wins the odd thing now and again (not a great follower of racing though so i expect someone will put me straight and bombard me with nerdy racing facts).

Actually isnt BMW pulling out of superbike racing to concentrate on cracking the shopping trolley market or something like that? I mean, everyone i use in Tesco's doesnt handle very well...definately room for improvement.
