We don't have many so I wouldn't worry. The 1199 screen is easy to read in all conditions , and I actually prefer it at night in the dark colours. Not sure if the. Monster is switchable like a 1199 though.
I can imagine it's lovely looking at night mate. Well I'll have to see for myself by having a demo in due course. Thanks ;-)
I'm having a demo on Saturday, looking forward to it, had a quick demo on the roadshow bike so hoping to have a proper ride this time, I've had 3 monsters previously so will be interested to see how this one shapes up
I've not found it be be a problem. Done 2000 miles, 99% daytime. I've not seen or heard the stories saying its an issue.
Well I now own one and haven't had a problem yet with it. What I will say is that when the bike goes through a darker area, the screen colour reverses from grey background with black writing, to black background with grey writing. I found that a lot better!! Maybe that can be fixed to stay that way!!??
I had a S4Rs and I made a testdrive on a 821 this summer and I bought a 1200s. Why? Its drive verry easely and because of the power. And iTS verry easy to handle in the city at low speed ( sorry for my english)
I own an 1100evo and have ridden the 821 and 1200S. My evo has a 14 tooth front sprocket and has a Rexxer remap (on top of the DP ecu and Termi's). Much smoother around town with these mods but still needs 3rd gear at 30-35 but it's no snatching and doesn't 'hunt' on steady throttle. The 821 and 1200S were smoother than my old aircooled evo but still really needed work. The 821 felt a bit overgeared and the 1200 was a snatchy at very low revs but was difficult to ride smoothly at lower speeds due to 'hunting'; definitely needed a remap. Most modern fuel injected bikes suffer from this due to emissions regulations forcing manufacturers to run the fuel mixture very lean at low revs leading to the low speed running problems. Just for the record, I've run v-twins for 22 years (mostly Harley's) and been riding 43 years, so I've ridden a few bikes. p.s. just tested a new Diavel with Termi's and that was smoother than all the other bikes, great handling, rapid and...fantastic!
I ride my 1200s into town on my commute, along with open road stuff. It is not snatchy unless in sport mode, which is a real pain in traffic. In urban or touring modes, it is fine. My multi was the same, but then again, the same engine bar a few tweaks. All in all, a great bike and the power and handling of the 1200s over the 821 is worth every penny.
I bought a 1200s Stripe with Termis as commuting on my 1199s was just painful. It really was a case of "I'm fed up with the Panigale, that monster over there with the white bits will do" and I wasn't even excited when the day came to pick it up. However, I'm 800 miles into ownership and I have to say it's an incredible bike to ride. Coming from an 1199, anything would feel smooth in town, and, yes, you do need a deft tough in sport mode, but switch it to urban and its very easy to ride and I've had no surging problems at all. At 300 miles I took it to the local track to..ahem...run it in. It's brutally quick, shakes its head out of corners (needs a steering damper) and makes all the right noises just like a monster should. I've owned an S4RS, which many are comparing this to and in all honesty, I prefer the 1200s. Riding to work has never been so much fun.
