There is not a global shortage of rubber, or oil for that matter, in fact both are in abundant supply. The reason is shipping costs and bottlenecks. Anything that involves humans and transport is disrupted, meaning prices rise to obtain supply. Big picture, globalisation has served the West very well, but it is now over. The West will have to adjust and it may herald a new dawn of innovative, self-made products.

I'm not doubting it. Asking price is one thing, hammer price is another. I keep an eye on the used watch market too and that's also flattened a bit.
NO There is a Global Supply issue of the base Rubber - that is tapped from trees for Natural Rubber. There are many reasons for that - weather, low profit for the rubber farmers etc.. but that shortage in base natural rubber - combined with Plant Closures of Polymer Suppliers, Shortages in Petroleum and Carbon Black have all come together to mean there is a shortage of base rubber. There is also the Transport and Labour issues you mention. I work for a company that uses Rubber in 50% of its products and we have been having short supply issues from our suppliers for the last 12 to 18 months as well as increased costs - around 150 to 20% for the base materials. This lack of supply has ment huge work for the logistics and purchasing teams trying to source alternative supplies and huge technical challenges getting these alternative approved. Do an internet search - you will find the evidence to support what I am saying.

Recently I've noticed available spaces at most trackes right up to the event, last few years they have been fully booked well in advance. I'm putting it down to rising costs (generally in life as well as TDs) and Europe being open again.
Just bought a pair (120/70, 190/55) of Metzeler Roadtec 01SE’s and a pair (120/70, 180/55) of Pirelli Rosso III’s, supply only. Cost a shade under £500 which brings my motorcycle tyre spend since January (‘22) to about £2200. The price of running 3 road bikes and 2 track bikes. Andy
