Tyre Problem - What's Going On Here Then?

  1. Dave,

What section is your rear tyre??

If its a fairly standard size put some Mich PR4's on it as Bradders says, they are great all round tyres and fab in the wet.

    If its a funny section like my 899 ( 180 / 60 ) your choice is a bit limited

Rosso Corsa's you already have on

I've also tried a Diablo Rosso II, supposed to be more sport tour than the Rosso Corsa, didn't really notice getting any more miles out of it tbh.

3rd option in this case is to use Dunlop Sportsmart 2's, they do these in the 180/60 profile, a mate has them on his S1000rr and can see 4,000 miles from the rear, I might give these a try next.

From experience I wouldn't trust Rosso Corsa's to do much more than 2,500 miles.

  2. Yep. Straight to a local tyre place ASAP. I'd say thats's about to go.

I've had mine let go like that during a ride exposing the belts. A dual compound Michelin with plenty of life left in it that had an issue (from memory I'd not done many miles at all) and a Pirelli through too much wear. The Pirelli went v quickly too however. The steel banding, almost needless to say, is v slippery. To get home I deflated the tyre quite a bit to get a bigger contact patch but it didn't help much and wasn't very nice.

I think this is the Michelin that failed.

  3. Looks more like a Bridgestone does that??

But it does illustrate the fact that once they get down a bit, its not long before they are through to the belts!

  4. 200/55

I have decided to go with the new Bridgestone RS10 this time - I'll post up a review after my trip to Germany.

  5. Limits your choice a fair amount unless you can use a 190

  6. I can use a 190 - and I have - but it seems to feel better with a 200 - (which is a bit weird - I've always gone down to 180 on my 996) ... more and more tyres seem to be coming as 200s ... It's the future don'tcha know ;-)

  7. Nah, 210 the future ;)

  8. I prefer my roads with corners

  9. Aye it sure is weird - based on my experience with the 996 I went straight for Dunlop 190s when I got the BSTs ... but the 200 profile BT01s felt better on turn in (grip was shit though unless it was bone dry and they barely lasted 1500 miles!). I've tried 190 Metzelers and Pirellis and keep on coming back to the 200s.

  10. It will if its a 190/55 v 200/55 as its (no maths checked here!) probably taller. The old 996 used to be 180/55 vs 190/50 irrc so effect is its taller

    My 200/60 turns a lot (!) quicker than a 190/55 I had fitted

  11. You don't have to stick to 180/60 you can go 180/55 which gives you a wider choice oh and please don't quote the dealers saying "oooooooh you mustn't do that it will fuk up the TC" it is a load of bollox.
