  7. An XJ 750 Seca. At the time I'd had continual cam chain trouble with a CB 750 KZ and and my first Ducati, a 906 Paso had broke the bank with servicing costs. The Yam was supposed to be reliable and bullet-proof and it was shaft drive. It actually went quite well. It was torquey with quite a lively top-end for an 8 valver, but apart from being pig-ugly it was riddled with typical 80's design stupidity. The headlight was dreadful and the yellow fog lamp completely useless and a deadweight. The front brake was the worst twin-disk stopper I've ever come across on a bike. The master cylinder was hidden away on the bottom yoke and connected to the lever by a cable. It was always spongy and huge four finger squeezes achieved almost nothing. The rear brake was actually better than the front. The shocks were soggy, the exhausts quick-rot and the handlebars hideous. I couldn't live with them and changed them for a set of T bars which produced violent tank-slappers the moment one hand was taken off them.
The YICS system (whatever that was) caused problems with a lazy throttle return. When releasing the throttle the twist grip would return normally and the flaps would snap shut but the revs lingered before dropping or sometimes didn't drop at all. I tried every possible remedy including two banks of rebuilt carbs and endless balancing but never cured it. And then the starter motor packed up. I needed the bike for work so I bump started it for a while and that destroyed second gear. I sold it for a pittance after that and the buyer turned it into a trike.
Complete crap. My XS 400 was a better bike. When it started..

  16. That is the biggest pile of shit on these pages so far :upyeah: so, what illustrious brand did that to themselves? :)

  17. Hold a darn minute there:mad:

I bought one and utterly hated it, but it was by far the best looking bike of the time.

But when it had this for competition it could hardly fail...
