749 Under The Fairing Frame Sliders

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Pierre 66, Mar 21, 2017.

  1. @RickyX
Modifying the join and fastener on the fairing won`t work. Just measured the sliders I have and they measure 90mm from the frame boss. Bloody things.
I`ll email Motowheels with this, they did say to keep them informed.

  2. As you can see from my avatar, I have the R&G through-fairing sliders because the bike came that way. The bike is much admired and no-one has ever said a word about the sliders - no-one.

  3. The sliders look like shit.

    :joy:

  5. They don’t look the same as the ones on mine and they protrude more - mine are about 78mm using the same reference point.

  6. Now you see `em,

    Now you don`t.

    Finally got them to fit.
I had to shorten the rods by 10mm and fettle the caphead bolt and sleeve for the puck, the sleeve was gold anodized so removing that wasn`t such a bad thing.
These block shaped pucks are the second generation design, the mushroom shaped ones are now discontinued.
It`s a bit annoying that they didn`t fit out the box, but got there in the end.
A big thanks to RickyX, once I re-read his reply and found the magic 78mm measurement, it was no problem.

  7. Can you still get the speedymoto ones? I know this is an old thread but I’ve just bought a 999 race bike and want to fit the under fairing ones. Cheers

  8. I know not everyone likes the looks but R&G through fairing sliders seriously saved my 999 from extensive damage in my recent off. In combination with fork protectors and rear bobbins, they soaked up loads of damage.

  9. Only ever seen them sold on US sites.
Managed to get mine years ago secondhand from somebody in UK.
    Good luck with your search.

  10. You can still get the SpeedyMoto sliders but unfortunately, America was the only place I could ever find them for sale.
I think parts price, postage to the UK and "potential" import duties will take the price to about $250-$300.
Motowheels, who supply them, offered me a discount if I signed up for their news letter, maybe 10%, can`t remember exactly.
If you have one piece fairings these sliders "should" fit out the box. If you have two piece fairings, they will probably need fettling. If you do need to shorten them, be very very careful not to make them so short they don`t give any protection. My fairings are a tight-ish fit, if you press the fairing where the sliders are, you can`t feel any deflection in the material.

  11. Does anyone have the dimensions of the sliders and fittings kit? I could probably get some made

  12. These are the standard out the box measurements, will probably be ok with one piece fairings. The engine "bolt" has 12mm threads which screw into the slider rods.

  13. This is what I had to modify to make them fit standard two piece Ducati fairings, 2003. I think I removed just under 10mm from the slider rods, removed 1-2mm from the caphead bolts, removed the same from the spacer sleeve and removed a small amount of material from the fairing fastener.

Quite a bit of work to make them fit with standard fairings, my mate is an engineer so bread and butter for him.
If you have to shorten them be careful or they won`t do their job, which is to support the fairing and stop it collapsing on to the expensive bits underneath.
