  1. Thanks everyone for all the various details of top boxes you have been posting. I have been considering which type to buy and this has certainly helped in pulling in all the options. At the moment I am swaying towards the ducati / Givi top plate and smaller non-branded givi top box. I only need space for one helmet so would prefer the lower profile, smaller givi box. Just depends if can get my dealer to supply the base plate only though...

  2. Same here Grayspeed....my dealer J&L insist on supplying rack AND topbox hence me starting this thread.

  3. Grayspeed, the SW Motech rack (#26) along with either a Monolock or Monokey adaptor plate, also from Motech, and thats all you need to be able to choose from the full Givi range of boxes.

  4. Thanks for the suggestion nuttsmutts, that looks like the best way to get the choice of smaller top box I was looking for. Cheers as well Bandit for starting the thread.

  5. Nuttmuttss the issue for me is weight of what can be carried looking at the Ducati/Givi rack and the hepco/becker rack both have tubed supports that bolt into the subframe under the pillion seat and grab rail (two underside set screw holes)- so could weight distribution could be an issue and grab rail strength with the SW motech rack ?

  6. Obviously I cannot comment for the DVT, but I have fully loaded mine and been at three figure speeds for extended periods (on private land of course) with no ill effects. I would not fill it with bricks, or anything very dense, but I have carried quite heavy shopping. Should the box start sloping downwards I would worry, but so far still level.

  8. So does a normal givi top box fit straight on the Ducati top box plate and support rack?

Yes it's a monolock Base plate (see photo above from earlier in thread) . Two lugs at the front and triangular lug at the back. Ducati topbox has a nice embossed cushion which my missus likes so happy with it and er.....the price lol.

  10. Thanks to @Andrew G and an assembly PDF I found on t'internet, I've managed to pull a list of the parts together to make a topbox mount.
I've only ordered the bits today, so I can't guarantee everything is spot on, but it should be. JHP have kept my spreadsheet for future reference anyway.
The parts in total came to £200 incl. VAT, so it's not necessarily a cheap option - I just didn't want to pay £446 for the box and the rack when the box is too big for what I want. I'm sure I can get a decent GIVI monokey topbox for under £150 - so going this route I should still save around £100 I guess.

The only thing left to order is 4 GIVI screw covers for the top of the rack when there's no box on. You can get those on eBay separately for a couple of quid.

I've attached the sheet in case it's of any use to anyone.

  11. I always forget which is MonoKey and which is Monolock. The fittings are very different. Basically the lower duty one is intended for scooters and small bikes and not up to the higher speeds we do. The other one is the one you need.

  12. Would anyone know if you can fit a monolock or monokey givi topbox plate the underseat rack that ducati sell ? I have a monolock plate and case which I used for 4 years on my mts 2010 without a problem and would like to use on the dvt

so basically i'm wanting to order all parts in this list apart from the support plate and then just fit my plate and box if this is possible ?

  13. I have the ducati/givi mount and use a 52 litre box when touring , which is a bit like a fucking wings after certain speeds , usually go with some GS riders so its not a problem , I would point out that the metal bars underneath have the thinnest paint possible and have started to rust already which is a bit shite.
I also have a 10 litre givi tankbag that works a treat and doesn't affect the lock at all
can't post pictures at work , will do later

  14. pics would be great mate but for now ...
Am I right in thinking you DIDNT get the new mounting plate and just used the one you had from previous set up ... see attached pic of my old mounting plate that I want to fit to the badly painted metal bars lol

  15. Having just bought and recieved the Urban pack, the lack of instructions was leading me to believe that I was going to spend my entire weekend trying to figure this kit out. With the info on this thread I'm confident that it will go together pretty easily. Thanks for all the pictures and advice. I'll post a picture if it all goes on ok

  16. no it wasn't from a previous set up , it was the one illustrated on the pages prior.
I will take some pics later of it and post them

  17. I had a similar problem and found that there was no way to afix my old Givi top plate to the MS DVT. So, I bought a specific rack from Dynamic in the US which also takes the Givi monokey topboxes. It cost 120 quid but it meant that I could use my old 47 litre topbox rather than spening loads of dosh for a new Ducati topbox. Here's a photo....... 20160714_204311.jpg

  18. I've just collected and fitted the rack assembly from the guys at Moto Rapido in Winchester. They identified the parts collection just for the box mounting from the urban pack. As already mentioned no instructions but to be fair it was really simple and only took about 20 mins.

I too had the older Givi mounting plate but you can't use this on the DVT, you need the rubber plates that sit perfectly into the resesses of the rear carrier frame. I'm using my old Givi Trekker top box, 52 Ltrs and doesn't look out of place at all.

The Givi plate was only about £27 of the bill so worth sticking with the correct one. Total bill was only £200 so only a little more than some of the flat German plate adapters you see on EBay.

In theory I should now be able to accelerate without regularly checking that the wife is still with me !

  19. Can anyone confirm this will work, ie, a Givi mono top box that was fitted to my GS will fit onto a the Ducati mounting plate.
