Utility Bills

  1. Its possibly due to November 2022 being the warmest ever, since records were kept? Lets see what December energy consumption brings compared to estimates...

  2. In the olden days utilities were billed 1/4ly in arrears, you basically were billed for what you had used....Crazy!
I used to work at SSE, the whole monthly billing his a huge cash reaping exercise. When they were my provided at least twice a year I was on the phone requesting hundreds of my own £ back.

  3. I’ve had the heating on all day every day all month chief. Makes no odds, my missus has liquid nitrogen for blood, my house is a furnace. I can’t make it much hotter.

and my dads house is like an old people’s home. I don’t actually think he ever turns his heating off

  4. I still pay mine quarterly, I know how much the bills will be (within 24 hours of consumption) at anytime via the app. I think paying via DD gives a small discount, but I'd rather the money was in my account than theirs.

  5. I’ve just got nearly £300 back from octopus energy as I’m over paying and I worry they might go under being a smaller company, I had to apply for it and have it approved though. It’s my bloody money!
Not had the heating on yet this year but I did light the log burner last night as it was -5 outside.

  7. So you refuse to let anyone read your meter and wont accept a smart meter? What do you expect the utilities company to do?

  10. Ovo have already been warned by the Ombudsman (Ofgem - yes those what f****d the Electricity market up in the first place) not to use customer credit for business activities. The credit we have with Ovo is NOT ring fenced if they were to go out of business. I can't ask for a refund until my bill is correct, I have £900 credit with Ovo, I want £500 back.

From a report from Ofgem's web site dated April 22
Ovo, Shell and Utility Warehouse. For this group of suppliers, we identified some weaknesses or gaps in their processes that could lead to poor consumer outcomes. Examples include lack of documented policies or guidance for staff, potentially not taking account of all relevant factors when setting customer direct debits, or risks that some customers’ direct debits are not assessed when appropriate. We have started compliance engagement with these suppliers to secure improvements.
