V A G, Ducati And Sceptic Tank Lawsuits

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by johnv, Sep 22, 2015.

  1. It's an interesting point. Just to reinforce my credentials as an insufferable pinko leftie who secretly longs to go and live in a soviet USSR, I did make a decision not to change the exhaust on my 999.
The grey silver one looks horrible, but on the black bike, you got a black exhaust which looks fine. It also makes a reasonable amount of noise. To change the exhaust would mean dumping the cat, and I didn't feel that that was necessarily responsible or ethical. The cat reduces power no doubt, but I already have plenty of that for the road.
A new exhaust would weigh less, look a bit better and make more noise and pollute more. As I use the bike for my own personal pleasure, mainly, I couldn't really justify annoying more people with the noise (however much I might like it) and increasing emissions for only slight gains in other departments.

However, I hasten to say that if I had a Multi, which on the standard pipe sounds like a wet fart in a paper bag, I might be tempted to swap the pipes, but junking the cat would still bother me.

It's all shades of grey. I am still, as a leisure biker, riding miles I don't need to and consequently polluting needlessly. But I do feel a little guilty about it.

BTW, can anyone tell me what happens to old tyres? How do they get rid of them? If you're a track fiend, you'll be generating plenty of useless old tyres (unless of course, there really is a use for them).

  2. That is a given ;)

  3. They used to grind up old tyres and use them for resurfacing roads and playgrounds.
Not sure whether that still happens though

  4. I'm pretty sure that they have stopped resurfacing roads and playgrounds now. With or without old tyres.

  5. Tyres are also reused for carpet underlay.

  6. Aren't used tyres exported to the third world where they get at least another 10,000 miles out of them ?

  7. No, they use them there as burning barricades. Don't you watch movies, John?

  8. Round here old tyres are used to wind everyone up,especially me.
Filthy scumbags dump them along country lanes, every few hundred yards,it seems.
Accompanied by the rest of the detritus from their shitty existences, sofas, mattresses and takeaway wrappers.
Prison is not good enough for these oxygen thieves: personally,I would like to see the crap they dump made into soup, and force them to eat it....
    :Rage:

    I did forget that, though.
