V2 V2 Randomly Cutting Out

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Veetoo, Jun 30, 2020.

  1. My 899 did the same thing 3 times over last summer.
Always going down the gears. Twice coming to a roundabout and once to a temporary traffic light. All 3 times bike dead, no dash. Turn off with key, on then started first time. Dealer couldn’t find anything and no error codes logged either. Hasn’t done it for a few thousand miles now.

  2. I had pretty much the same thing on my 1198S, so not a new issue! Must be part of that thing called "character"...

  3. I didn't read every reply, but this happened to me in the cadwell park pit lane. Idled very low the cut out. Not in gear, just sat there. It was very hot though (not overheating), but shouldn't happen in my opinion

  4. Did the OP get it sorted?

  5. I’m pretty sure my 899 did this

  6. My 1199s did this once or twice when rolling up to junction/roundabout - off throttle, clutch in, going down gears.

I suspected clutch drag and air in the system. Did a full bleed and not happened since.

  7. I've got a new V2 with full Akrapovic system and from new, it has cut out randomly when changing gear and for a second or less. This is usually using DQS but occasionally when using the clutch also and only occurs intermittently. The dealer suggested running it in properly as DQS works best under hard/moderate acceleration and braking.

I did two trips of around 160 miles each two weekends ago...

Trip 1: I counted eleven incidents when it clearly cut out momentarily and numerous others where the change was rough, particularly on down shifts when it does not match the revs properly. I accept the latter as possibly related to my ‘relaxed' riding style but the eleven incidences are very disconcerting. Of these, seven of them occurred on consecutive gear changes, changing up. Three were going 2nd, 3rd, 4th under quite hard acceleration and the other two incidents were going from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th, again under acceleration.

Trip 2: I counted seven similar incidents over a route that had more motorways and dual carriageway and again, many others where the change was rough. Of the seven, four of them occurred on consecutive gear changes, one changing down from 4th to 3td, to 2nd and the other going 2nd, 3rd, 4th under quite hard acceleration.

Could it be something to do with fuelling? I’ve also noticed that the fuel pump often makes a strange grating sound and/or ringing when the ignition is turned on. This may be normal with a V2 but I’ve never heard it so pronounced on all the other bikes I’ve owned. Lastly, the computer is wildly optimistic suggesting 70 MPG when I know I am getting 44 to 47 MPG as I’ve measured it.

Any pointers gratefully received as I just don't think this is part of the bikes 'character', it's a fault but the dealer is struggling to replicate it as it needs potentially a good few miles for the problem to occur.

  8. Your shift issues are similar to the issues I experience so it's not a surprise. I think personally there is a fundamental flaw in their system for DQS. I ride mine on track and false neutrals, not changing down at all or lunging happen all the time. Nightmare. Been at Cadwell today and in the end just went back to old school ways. Not sure on the grinding thing. Also upshifts mainly fine.
