Well done Dave glad all your efforts have paid off. Keep us all informed on how you get on with the fine tuning. It's something that is top of my list for the V4. That's if there's a job to go back to..
Great thread and I'll refer to it when I take the plunge. I too was not convinced of the reliability of the OE quickshifter. And I bought an HM unit too ages ago and it's been in my toolbox ever since. Truth is the OE has never missed a beat in 1250 track miles.... It's been superb
Hi Dave Quickshifter is about to arrive ! Forgot to get a rose-joint on order for the bottom end. Do you remember what size, thread and hand it needs to be? Thanks, Brett
I’m pretty sure the OE one you can reuse at the footrest end is the lefty thread and the opposite end will be right handed. The spare one I had came from another HM kit for different bike but luckily was threaded the right way for the rod. I’m sure someone on here might have one kicking around, either that or take a look on eBay...
Sorry forgot to mention both ends are male M8 1.25 , also you might need to heat the OE rod to remove the old one depending on how much thread lock has been applied. Mine was solid and wouldn’t budge before applying some heat.
Checked the rod ends after another thread raised the issue and on the V4, the OE fittings are both right handed. Andy
Only one fitting at footrest end on OE setup... The other end is part of the QS unit Andy... But without checking it might well be right handed at the top rod...
Will check my spare HM rod when I’m back and confirm. Adamant it’s right and a left on the new rod you will be using....
Ignore that as it won’t be any use!! Doh.... You will have in the kit the internal threaded rod that connects the HM rod too the shifter unit itself. Then your OE joint on the end of that. The one you need is the male joint that goes directly into the Shifter module as per picture....
Just checked the HM spare shift rod and that’s definitely right handed both sides. Now here's the thing, The OE shift rod is right handed the module side and left handed the rose joint side up at the gear lever. That's the one you need to remove. Without removing my new setup I can't confirm what i fitted in the new HM module down by the linkage arm. But I'm guessing it was the OE left handed and my spare must have been right handed! Meaning you would need a Male M8 1.25 right hand to install. Hope this makes sense
Sorry to dig up an old thread but can someone please confirm that it is M8 and not M6? I want to order one from HM and have everything here ready to fit when it arrives, however; I don’t have my bike to check. It’s just on the HM website they state their shift rods are M6
Any feedback on the HM Quickshifter? Bought one and arrived today, but now hearing of items failing an HM not responding to buyers. Seriously thinking of sending it back for a refund and getting a translogic
