V4 V4 Track Bike - Trying To Gather Information

  1. Keyless fuel cap is one of those things often overlooked but really useful imho

  2. OK, So maybe I did not make it clear that I am not a total noob when it comes to race bikes and racing.
I started racing in 1993 and have been building race bikes for myself and others since then. I normally build 3-4 bikes every winter. I am still amongst the 15-20 fasted in the country but I have decided that I will quit sprint racing and just do the best track days and the local relay-endurance series and then the V4 is OK.

I have seen the maintenance schedule on a V4 and that is less than how I normally maintain my race bikes.

My main concern is to get the engine correctly tuned. In my humble experience all engines need to be properly tuned once things like exhausts and air filters are changed to race products.
Maybe Ducati is different, probably not and having a destroyed V4 engine just because it has been running lean is not an option.
Since we have very silly noise regulations (95dB full throttle flyby n full acceleration, no static tests) I will have to make an exhaust that will work. We are probably talking about 2 really ling cans under the seat.

Things like rearsets, tank caps, fairings and stuff I know all about. Together with a friend we run 2 companies that do nothing but sell race parts and personal equipment for racing.

  4. They are ecu tuneable but suspect most places can’t do it as special software (and potentially knowledge) needed, certainly is for many other modern ducatis. Are V4 engines DVT?

  5. I highly doubt that :joy:
But I will try to contribute as much as possible.

  6. My mate races a V4R, he's really struggled getting through noise testing (105dB static) at a few circuits this year with the Uscite system even with the most restrictive of baffles in so he has had a system manufactured by Phil at Storm Performance complete with a little stubby for our Euro jollies :p

  11. That is kind of what I was thinking about. But I know that just one can, even though it is "big" will not be enough on the Swedish tracks. So what I was thinking about is a system with 2 400mm/450mm cans under the tail.
    What should be enough.
How it looks is secondary. Looking good in the pits since you cant ride without being black flagged is not cool, it is stupid.

  13. Bren tuning (BT tuning) do a hand held device. You could speak to their distributor if you have one there or I think the Uk 1 is moto bull. You send them your ecu files and tell them what mods you have, what fuel you run etc and they will map it and send it back and you upload that to your ecu. Thu can also do the servo delete side stand delete etc, I think. You would need to speak to them. Does anyone change the gearing though? I can’t find much info on ratios?

  14. 3500£ is pretty cheap for a rebuild. Not all rebuilds are created equal though. A full refresh on a v4R would likely be more like 10 grand or more I reckon.
