V4 V4r Maintenance Costs

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Mary Hinge, Dec 6, 2019.

  1. For sure. If people think this is bad look at the schedule in Wsbk.

I’m sure part will go for longer but I also imagine Ducati had done plenty or testing on longevity of these parts

  2. I’m surprised that you’re surprised at this mate ?

supersport are around 1500km’s for strip downs.

    superbike is around the same.

superstock - privateers are every season mostly and the teams around halfway through a season.

some people choose to run the risks and run the motors longer but you won’t save money as when it does come to rebuild time everything will need replacing and it’ll be a huge bill. Or worse if it goes bang. Instead of spending let’s say 2k on a refresh on a stocker you’d end at 5-6k.

superbike rebuilds are horrendously expensive. I heard the RS motors are over 20k for a full refresh.

Club level is realistically every season also. Depends on pace Ofcourse. The difference between a slow to average rider and a fast riders wear is considerable.

  3. Even if that maintenance costs half the buying value each year

  4. On the V4S, the variable inlet tract kicks in at about 12,000 rpm so if your track day skills allow you to do about 60 miles in the 12,000 to 14,500 rpm range in a session then IMO, you are looking at the servicing schedule posted for racing. The V4R is going to raise the rev limit to max 16,000 so the more time your skill lets you keep the bike revving its balls off, the more servicing and parts replacement you will have to dig your hand into your pocket. Again IMO, a fast group rider doing 6 or 7 20 minute timed session on a track day isn’t going to stress the motor to that extent. If you use the facility to record your riding data, that can be downloaded and interpreted by someone like Wilf who can then advise of servicing and component replacement. Andy

  5. Ouch! That makes it sheer madness to use properly. Wtf are they building such a fragile bike for as a road bike?!

  6. V4S for the thrill, V4R to homologate the bike for WSBK and domestic series like the BSB ? Why the D16RR, the HP4 or the new RR-R/SP ? An exercise in engineering ? Andy

  7. Even a d16rr didn’t need a full engine rebuild after 1500 miles tho. I thought you were saying v4s also had the same if used on track above, did I get that wrong?

  8. Also wasn’t a panigale R a homologation special? And their servcie interval seems same as standard panigale

  9. I’m a competent intermediate rider and might just make the bottom end of the fast group at a couple of tracks that suit the bike and my ability. I will have the required book (mileage or time) service in February and have an oil and filter change half way through the year. I do not expect to replace any components apart from clutch plates, chains and sprockets although I will plan an engine refresh at about 3 years old before the 4 year warranty expires. I’d do nothing different if my V4 was an R. If I were Advikaz however, I probably wouldn’t be tracking a V4 for fun. Andy

  10. True I suppose. As said, if you play you pay...
It’s noticeable that quicker riders smash further down the box therefore higher up the rev range.
I was watching some on boards of the MotoGP boys testing. They’re down to 1st where I’ll be diesel in round in 3rd.... yes, I know....

  11. It was and if you rag it on track you are looking at an engine refresh at regular intervals. Any bike being ridden for a sustained period at the extreme end of its performance envelope will. Andy

  12. Desmo’s never get used as intended though plus they weren’t very powerful

  13. Not the point. Point is, Ducati are now stating that (potentially) track use means a 1500 mile engine rebuild. And sounds like same for V4S. Wonder what happens to warranty at 1501...

  14. The V4* S1000RR, Aprilia et al is a quantum leap from the desmo... the modern stuff is north of 200hp at the wheel. Impressive stuff from a 1 litre n/a engine. Bound to need refresh if you cane it. Which is a bugger... £££

  15. My wife could possibly be just as high maintenance as that bike I reckon

  16. Purchase cost to maintenance cost ratio is probably better tho ;)

  17. Wife’s got a better rack though as a plus point and won’t short circuit when wet

  19. This servicing requirement has been in the paperwork from day one, I certainly saw it when the launch advertising blurb was released. V4R has a 12 month warranty not extendable under Red and no warranty if raced. Andy
