Today I started off at 8.30am with the Susten pass heading East, then veered around West at Andermatt (loads of roadworks and delays) to take the Furka pass - at 2431 metres it's the highest one in that region. Weather absolutely perfect, fine clear dry and sunny but not too hot. Easy run down the Rotten valley (that is what they call the Rhone here) to Brig, and South-east over the Simplon pass which I had not ridden before. It's a big wide road with trucks and traffic, unlike the previous ones. Briefly into Italy then back into Switzerland along a very remote, obscure little back road from Domodossola to Locarno. Continuous tight twists for 20 Km or so, and little traffic. Finally along a busy main road/autostrada to Lugano where I found a hotel overlooking Lake Lugano. Bit tired now so may rest for a while.
Sounds like another great trip Pete, I've said it before and I'll say it again, you should write a book of all these travels that you do.
Then all around Lake Como. I just love the Lake District. Stopped at Mandello del Lario for an ice cream. Do the bins spoil the picture? Pity the Guzzi museo is only open for one hour a day on certain days. Missed it again.
Since I was passing Monza, thought I'd call in to take a look at the circuit. It's a lot more beautiful and elegant than Silverstone, I think.
Staying in Milan for a few days. I realised I have whizzed by several times, but never stopped to look at the sights leisurely. So now I am doing just that.
Don't miss the "Navigli" area (the canals), very lively at night. English widely spoken (no disrispect for your italian..) For traditional good milanese food, go to http://www.anticatrattoriadellapesa.com/la-trattoria/ Best risotto milanese I've ever eaten, well worth a slight detour. Enjoy your time there!
Thank you for the suggestion. Sadly that particular restaurant is closed Sundays, but I have eaten a fine risotto milanese for lunch at one which is open.
More sightseeing today, taking in the Sforza Castle: La Scala, the most famous opera house in the world: The cathedral (Duomo): ... and the fabulous shopping galleries:
Looks like you are having a fabulous trip Pete. Good idea to stop in Milan to explore the city at leisure. Have a safe and enjoyable ride down to WDW. May the sun continue to shine
