What's the deal with this non-UK/UK thing then? Does it make a difference to anyone and why? They are all made in Bologna! Personally, I buy only from Ducati agents, bikes with known pedigree and history and of the last three I've bought, each has had a one year guarantee. Surely these are more important considerations than country of 1st registration?
My Bayliss won the Norwegian Super Bike Championship (not sure if I mentioned before ) so happy it isn't a UK bike A lot of imports come with no traceable history for mileage and we can check via MOT's here and confirm - it's all on the history though so a fully stamped service record would be cool for me if a road bike, especially as you can change to MPH easy on the newer bikes.

You can’t frame may be, even some of the bodywork may be, but inside the motor....all top end world race bikes have the same issue. And unless it’s been run by a world champion and won the championship, doesn’t make it more valuable than any old tricked up trackbike (if not factory)

Im not. For me. I know loads of old face bikes, have been around the scene years, and very few are genuine as-they-finished bikes. Check eBay, it’s full of ex-BSB bikes, most ex-superstock or supersport. Worth a bit more with te right parts than equailvent race bike, but unless ridden by Byrne or similar, means nothing to anyone to actually pay a premium.
Mine is the correct bike but never pretends to be as it finished the race! The Engine and Frame are so: it is 'the bike' but was fully rebuilt / restored and put back into it's Bayliss colours. I like the fact a Bayliss limited edition bike was taken out of a show room new, won a national Championship and was put back to Bayliss colours - albeit still race body work, kind of says something about it's heritage. It has a fab history as far as I am concerned, others opinions won't matter until I sell it but it's history is a key factor of this particular 1 or 500 Bayliss replicas.
I may have missed the mark here but it was not a serious question. The 'how can you tell if' joke is designed to poke fun at someone's propensity to boast about the nice things they have in their life or good deeds they have done without having been questioned about them in the first place. Another example of this jest would be: 'How can you tell if someone has a super hot girlfriend who is half their age and therefore they should know better? The answer in this case would be: 'Don't worry, you don't need to. They'll simply use a picture of her as their Ducati Forum avatar in a vain attempt to mask their insecurity! Get it now?
You know it’s not always about you, right? A 999R that was raced at BSB superstock level would be worth less than one which was low miles, perfect condition, all the right bits unless it was ridden by a future champ. IMO. Which is what the guy asked.
