Wanted. A Second Bike. Or Do I?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by spanish, Jun 26, 2020.

  1. I like the idea of an 900 ss they look pretty cool but probably a bugger on maintenance maybe?

  2. I had one a few years back and was a great bike. Only suffered carb icing once, but that was riding in early March.

  3. I have a Panigale V2 and recently sold my Daytona 675R and bought a 68 Plate Triumph Thruxton R. I love that it's got sportsbike components like the Showa forks and Ohlins shocks, and Brembo brakes, discs and Master Cylinder, and stuff like a slipper clutch, but it has a big smooth lazy engine. it's still something you can ride really fast on the road but not like a sportsbike. Like you, I wanted opposite ends of the scale, which is why I decided against buying a 748R which I had my eye on.

  4. Pretty well set on the 1100 Pro Sport. Have test ridden the BMW R NineT-that I liked but too cramped a riding position for me, the Honda CB500X ( had thought of adding a Rallye Kit)- amazing value for the money and a really good bike. Of them all the Ducati Scrambler just hit the button. Following Phill 748,s writings I think I should look and ride the Thruxton RS before that final commitment. All to do next week!

  5. have a go on the Thruxton for sure! The speed twin also is a little more softly sprung and a bit less focused, the riding position on the BMW is terrible, really terrible

  6. Late to the party and lots of excellent points made aready that I won't bother repeating.
It's horses for courses in my opinion. If you can afford more bikes, and have somewher to keep them, then introduce some variety in to your life. I love my Street Triple but I wouldn't take anything other than the Multistrada on a trip to Spain (September - fingers crossed).
The garage is missing a sports bike so that may be the next purchase. Panigale, or possibly just a SuperSport, as I've always liked them.

  7. Heh - ironically i had this conversation with my mate yesterday.....last year he said "I`m selling the Dorso..." An absolutely pristine, dream machine sprayed up, full arrow system dorso 1200 - hes a big bloke so nothing else fitted him....at the time i said....your fucking mental selling that....its a lovely bike, youll never find another one like it, and that style of bike...theres nothing else that`ll fit you....

Fast forward to yesterday.... "Looking for a Dorso 1200...theres none around...."

    You fucking had one...!!!

  8. I'm keeping my ST4 :upyeah:

Wife has suggested a tourer for later life and uttered the unmentionable Goldwing :bucktooth: I'm trying to get her attention closer to Moto Guzzi but I intend to keep the ST4 if that ever happens :D

  9. Had few Ducs over the years and always had a sports model in the garage, 748's, 848's, 1098 and 899 finally sold my two Monsters and 899 last year as the riding position was becoming uncomfortable, really sorry to see the 899 go as it was the best combination of power, handling and looks.
Test rode a 765 Street triple, couldn't fault any aspect of it except maybe looks? bought a new one and they are brilliant! light, well quick enough for an old git with handling and suspension that is excellent, but............. still missed a sports type bike. Had ridden a few miles on a new Supersport when they came out and it seemed OK ish but didn't really 'do it' for me.
A friend was selling his S/S with full Akropovic system and U/D shifter so bought it on a whim:) I now know it's exactly what I needed as a 'sports' bike - easy riding position, adequate performance with a real fun roll on in 3rd and 4th, great sound, excellent (standard) suspension, rubbish mirrors but a bike that makes me do a few more miles on the way home as it feels to me, very satisfying and fun to ride.
Got a test ride on a Thruxton R soon so maybe two 'sports' bikes in the garage again?

  10. Well have done the deed. Order placed for 1100 Sport Pro with billet handle bar mirrors and full Termi. Can’t wait now the deed is done and procrastination is behind me! Cousin to a Multi 1260.
Just need a sport bike in the ‘shed’!

  11. Great thread I had 3 bikes in my garage last year but still fancied a change sold 2 of them and brought one
I now have a pp 1200s and a 1991 cbr600 Honda which has now had a full rebuild both these bikes are staying in my garage for a very long time although i scratched an itch with a Pannigale last year
It's the only bike I would buy again if I had the money such a beautiful motorcycle but really not comfy for me to ride but I would still want another one in my garage
