If there is stuff i find distasteful, i just dont go there. I dont ask for it to be banned. Simple. Unless its racist etc. The Lounge is there for social and for messing around. Not everything has to be Ducati. If thats what you wish then dont go to the lounge or those threads. It really is that simple. This forum has got the balance right. Social and technical. Its a good forum and everyone is decent to each other. Sure we disagree on things but we are adult about it. (mostly) See, we even disagree on this matter. I mean do we ban Cagiva talk or chat about new bikes or racers other than ducati riders? Where do you draw the line. Its tricky. Matt and ET do a good job with their minimalist policing. We are after all, all adults. I do understand that some dont like some things. That is fair enough. But why call for them to be excluded? Why must people want things banned all the time? Just dont go there.
Lounge: 3,450 threads and 118,893 posts Its nearest rival is Multistrada: 1,517 threads and 23,627 posts I think that is a good indication of what people think of the lounge and from those figures I suppose you could say this is really a social forum with a bit of a leaning towards Ducati
I think the views showed by alanp in saying shut down the lounge are defeatist rubbish that flies in the face of freedom of speech and actually, just generally enjoying life! My life's ambition is to be libelled in Private Eye and UK laws provide ample protections and ways to address slander and libel. Forums always throw up the odd thread where the subject matter strays towards areas that could cause legal issues and moderators and sensible thought should minimise this. Shutting down the lounge section is an over the top reaction to a minor issue that was addressed. In short, my great grandfather didn't fight on the beaches of Normandy so that minor issues like this lead to censorship and culling our freedoms. As he always said, if only the Allies hadn't been so well organised, our side would have won, damn that Churchill chap and his US cohorts!
I was trying desperately to get libelled by The Mail. I hate the paper. But I don't want it banned. After you start banning things, its a slippery slope. Ban Pete for his font faux pas? As for ET's contribution, he keeps the Dave count up. This keeps him nicely distracted. The letters are close on the keyboard and its difficult to do with your knuckles only.
he was asking the same about you in another thread. you'd better decide whose the man-driving- and whose the woman-map reading (get it the right way up) .
Forums are...what, exactly? A common place where discussions happen..? I think that is a pretty reasonable description. So a thread had to be deleted...So what? But of those people who suggest we stick to Ducatis as a subject...What the fuck are you doing here..?
And if you closed down the lounge the forum would die. How many threads can you have about tax discs, exhausts and broken down Multistradas?
How did you end up posting here? Perhaps you found the thread interesting..? And what were you doing in the lounge anyway..?
Strueth. A bike forum without a Lounge. Remind me to check in everyday so I can keep up with the latest on discharged batteries and stripped exhaust header studs.
Fret not, we're not dropping the Lounge. Despite being a 'motorbike' forum, the lounge is clearly the heart
