ohh bradders please save me beejeezuz not the 'I know a guy' line haha lets see professional reports.
I've run carbon Dymags on my SuperDuke for the last 5 years. The difference they make to acceleration, deceleration, braking and speed of handling is huge. I rate them so highly that I bought a set for my 996SPS earlier this year when Dymag was reborn. I haven't fitted them yet, but I will do quite happily as they are the new design. I have also recently ordered a set of BST carbon wheels for my D16RR. I'll fit them as soon as they arrive.
Thank's matt#corse for the warning ... I've got the same wheel's fitted on my 916 !!! Have e-mailed C.S.A. International ltd (dymag) today , hopefully receive a reply off them soon ...
I'm trying but fear you are beyond help But thats the point. Experts will never agree fully so if you want em, I do, and can afford em, I cant, get em! Bang for buck one of the best upgrades there is, much better than a £2800 termi system...or so I'm told
See you more as a wee Jimmy Cagney figure, hanging from the top of the local water tower screaming 'I'm on top of the world, Ma' as they tow your bike away to check all that carbon over...
So many post on the net re the use of carbon wheels... For those who wish to know BST "race" wheels have Mag hubs and have different usage and terms etc. Never known of sealing issues with carbon wheels. I have seen MANY smashed and damage OEM wheels you would question IF any of them are safe for use on the roads most of us have, what with the ever growing need to shed weight from modern bikes they have become even more fragile imo and in need of care from owners and tyre fitters. I look after a couple of customers with older (problem years) Dymag wheels and know they would never run any other wheel even now, I am also of the same line of thinking with my BST's and am happy to run them on the road, wheelies (private road ) and jumps included in day to day use IMO carbon wheels DO require some extra care from owner and tyre fitters (I fit my own) as to maintain the safety aspects of the wheels, that said I know a couple of BST owners who use the bike daily rain or shine.. I am interested to see over time how they stand up!! I only use mine in the best of weather and they have total care all year round. I only wish I was flush enough to run them in all my bikes...
How many thousands of these single sided carbon wheels do you think the 'old' Dymag sold? And this is the first failure? Just saying...
as you may/may not know, my chain snapped a few weeks ago i got away with it (except for a £600 bill)... im running Mag marchesinis...will this kill me?
Sorry to hear about your chain incident Funky but sounds like you were lucky compared to my mate. From what he said to me his chain snapped at the worst possible moment.Still a large bill is never nice. Its up to you folks what you fit to your bikes.I will be fitting carbon wheels again for sure and would also consider the mag spoke/carbon rim wheels dymag made along with BST carbon wheels. This thread was not designed to put people off using carbon wheels. It was simply a warning to anyone using Dymag CA5 Carbon Rear Wheel Single Sided between 2002 - 2009 to get them back to Dymag for safety check and modification to hub. Im glad to see Duke of Wales and hopefuly any others using this older type rear wheel are getting the warning issued by Dymag.Im sure there maybe another member of here Brian(old ducatisti member) with a very nice 916SPS Foggy Rep using the same older style Dymag CA5 carbon wheels. Hopefuly mine was a one off fault as im sure a lot of others would experience the same problem with this wheel. Not sure how many Dymag sold between 2002-2009.But as Dymag have found a serious fault they have done the right thing I think and recalled all of them for check and mod.I seem to recall ducati doing similar for old 748/916/996 series bikes for rear wheel spindle.Think they x rayed them all just to be sure.
After e-mailing C.S.A. International ltd yesterday , received a phone call within the hour regarding the rear Dymag carbon wheel on my 916 from their (Sales & Marketing Manager) , who was very helpful . I'll probably take it up for inspection middle of next week ... I also remember having to return my 916 to the dealer for the rear wheel spindle inspection , prob's 1998 or 1999 ...
Well Warning is official now and on Dymag site so if you have one of these old type carbon CA5 rear wheels get em checked asap. Dymag | Performance Motorcycle Wheels Just to add im very happy with how Dymag have resolved the problem with my old type CA5 carbon rear wheel. They have responded very fast, issued a safety recall on all these wheels even though this is the only one to suffer problem and made me a very happy Dymag customer again. Ps I think they sold around 200 sets of these wheels so must be a major PITA for them and customers. Id personaly like to say thanks for great customer support and a great attitude to safety of customers.Ive spoken to both Designer and Big boss and both where very helpful and informative. I guess one of the reasons other than preferring look of Dymag products for me is they are a UK based company. So easy to contact and visit in person and defo on the ball when it comes to customer service and customer support. Cant wait to get the carbon wheels back on again. After fitting alloy marchesinis back on I was seriously thinking of selling the bike. They make that much difference.Christ knows what a 1098R would be like with them fitted.Hmm theres a next project idea for me.
