  1. Funny that's Ducati's thinking too

  3. Nope, you could go in and remove all the magnets though. Until then, still generating

  6. The UK manufacturer of such Reg/Recs states not to use Lithium Batteries with their products (as Ducati do) - and used to have pictures of burn't out Ducati's on his web site - one I remember being a Paul Smart...

  9. 1) Universal Mosfet for AHY vehicle
    2) Mosfet upgrade listed for a GSXR particularly to sort out their "unreliable charge systems"

  10. Yet I had one fitted to my 848 till I sold the bike with no problems. Ask 100 auto electricians and get all sorts of answers.
I wonder if my 848 had different volts to my Supersport which now has one fitted.

  11. exactly.

  12. Ballistic :joy::motorcycleduc::bomb:

But it shows there was a need to design one :bucktooth: - I wonder what environment they are designed to run in, as the 848/1098/1198 is particularly harsh in terms of little airflow and excessive heat - so much so the first model year bikes as standard were setting alight.

Out of interest how old is that video Andrew?

  14. I’ve given it an overnight amount of thought and I don’t remember ever using a battery charger on that bike. Only the booster clipped on to help it start and it would charge itself when running.

I’m not on one side or the other regarding the use of lithium batteries.

  15. With race bikes, its a trade between weight/performance/cost/efficiency.

If you use a lithium, you just need to make sure you have means to boost it, as AndyB and Ash have said with a boooster of some sorts.

Hardly worth the headline thread title given its type of use

  16. Neither am I ash, just want to make sure that people are aware of the issues regarding generator set temperatures and the potential downside of this brilliant technology.
If the booster was the one you used on my site, then it's LEAD acid based, so no excessive voltage during boosting. This would indicated the bikes standard gen set caused the failure.

  17. The thread title is correct and you've clearly not understood the many of the issues being discussed.

  19. If you need to use a dedicated lithium charger
Then common sense says you should also have a charging system designed for lithium

  20. What makes you say that? Put more in that it take out will create heat that won’t go anywhere. Add that lithium batteries need a bit of warmth to work...

Screaming ‘IT WILL MAKE YOUR BIKE EXPLODE’ is a quite disproportionate and dependent on circumstance and use
