Watch - Thoughts?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by bradders, Oct 6, 2017.

  1. I have a luminor, recently bought, and love it as my special go out posh watch, but my favourite watch is still my Oris Aquis Date. But I agree with your omega sentiment though, the latest Co-axial stuff is awesome.

  7. Birthday (Dec) and originally £500 but could stretch a grand as I've sold some bike bits...I'll just tell her it was £200 (she isn't into watches)

  8. Still my fave, work in a refinery and this takes a beating like no other, over 3 years old, barely a mark on it, worn everyday.

  11. Ha ha, err, no Andy. That's like something out of one of those crane grab things in an amusement arcade.

  12. Nice. I like the Oris stuff. Again, nice watches for the coin. It's on the wrong wrist though. My Mrs. does this. Messes with my OCD....

  13. Left hooker, feels natural to me, and the comfiest watch I own. :upyeah:

  14. How very dare you :punch:! I'll have you know that the watch is a very expensive limited edition Diesel Cartoon Master. Well it was expensive to me at the time, about £175 and I bought it for a bit of fun, it's definitely a conversation piece . Andy

  17. Christopher Ward would be a consideration at that cost @bradders

  18. Nahhh! Andy sorry, still to small mate ;)

Seriously though, I don't understand the logic of spending a fortune on a watch, unless your a speculator, then I don't understand that logic either, for someone else to pay you more than what you paid for it in the first place

  20. I wear a '57 Seamaster automatic for my daily watch. Had it 6 years and it's great. Got a '71 Seamaster as well that's a manual wind. Also some other old watches from lesser brands. I was always advised to buy automatics for everyday use and manual winders for occasional use. The theory being that automatics are more susceptible to issues if left sitting that manuals. I don't mind winding a manual as I take my watch off at night anyway, so you get in a habit of winding when you take it off or put it on pretty quickly. I do have quartz watches but nothing branded, and they don't get worn as much.

Be careful with the face size though as old watches tend to be much smaller, I bought Mrs Stang an Omega dress watch and the face is about 10mm across. Goes great with a posh frock (not that we go out since the little one appeared) but a bugger to see the time once the lights are dimmed! I prefer the smaller faces as I think the big watches fashionable now look crap, but try to stay bigger than 35mm for me.
