Waterproof Boots - Real World Feedback Sought.

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Moocow, Oct 6, 2014.

  1. Not a big fan of race boots but I wear TCX. I have several pairs all live up it the waterproof claim and are easy to walk in without any squeeks

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  2. I have the Sidi Adventure Goretex for winter duties on the MTS, I'm on th lookout for something more slimline for the KTM. Nothing is perfect but the Sidi's have not once let in water for me with textiles over the top of the boot. You do lose some feel compared to a sportier boot but coupled with decent thermal socks, I've been in very low temps and hacked through standing water with spray totally covering my legs without any problems.

  3. I picked up the Sidi Canyon in the end - Fowlers surprisingly had them at the same price as anyone I would use on the t'interweb.
Glad I went to a store to try them as my normal size was way too tight in all the SIDI's with heavier winter socks on which I took with me to try - gone up a half size, just a tiny bit tight on my left foot but should break in nicely with some miles.
Found the Adventures just a little on the heavy side for my liking, felt like I was wearing moon boots TBH. Though they did feel like I could hold up to being run over by a tank with your foot in them :D
Roadstars fitted like a glove, but the sole I felt was a little too much like a race boot - thin and a bit lacking in grip, looked like it would wear out quite fast for £300+ pair of boots.
Alpinestars SMX I tried on also, but a little too race orientated for my tastes.

Thanks again for the advice though fellas.

  4. A* smx waterproof. Will keep your feet warm and dry in day long downpours on motorways. Mine have never let me down neither has my Ixon waterproof jacket and trousers. Forget the rest.

  5. I have to disagree there, I work in construction (Site Engineer) and I swear by Sealskinz. I have been on sites where it's freezing cold, trudging around in water and mud all day, boots soaked through and the Sealskinz socks have kept my feet warm and dry, they are lined with merino wool and are superbly well insulated.

  6. + 1 for sealskins - get the army green ones they're cheaper than the normal retail

Feel a bit weird at first but you get used to then

  7. Attila has it right.

  8. Sealskinz are om but didnt stop mine feeling fricken cold and wet, they weremt wet just felt it, after 5 hrs in driving rain coming back from. Germany. Cheap waterproof boots: one part of that statement is untrue

  9. thats the point i was making, sealskins are brilliant and will keep your feet dry, but dry is still cold when you have boots that are wet inside with the added wind chill effect.

I do wear sealskins in my enduro boots in the winter and they work well in a boot that doesn't even pretend to be waterproof, but I'm not sat still on a road bike at a much higher speed.

  10. Another vote for Daytona Roadstar GTXs here. Simply the best boot I've ever had (and I do 16k a year, so plenty of rain). Had my current pair for 2 years and they still look like new, except for the slight wear on the soles.

  11. Sorry El Toro, my fingers are like pigs tits on this keyboard, it was a typo.

  12. Take the down vote off then if he didn't deserve it. Down Votes are very special accolades and it's not fair you have given him one he doesn't deserve! :Wideyed: How am I going to get more than him if you're giving them out willy nilly?

  13. Done, :Bag:

  14. I have SIDI rains, harsh to walk around in and cold! Weatherproof is ok. Also have Daytona Travel Star Pros, best boot I have ever had in 25 years of bikes, soft, warm, waterproof, comfy to walk in all day and you can have them serviced by Daytona for a fee, they replace the whole sole and more should you need it, lot of money but I'd highly recommend them.

  15. Daytona make some of the best boots on the market, i used to sell them, but I've never spent the extra for them as in 20 years of riding I've never had any Alpinestars waterproof boots or gloves leak ever ever ever! And if that's not a cue for soggy socks and freezing wet fingers next time I go out then they're never going leak.

  16. Can't believe no-ones suggested Derri MCB boots. Totally waterproof, stylish and competitively priced.
    What's not to like?

  17. I've just googled them :)
    PMSL!

  18. +1 for Sid Canyon. Not the sexiest boot in appearance but extremely comfortable and reliably waterproof even after a few years. Great to walk in also.

  19. I had Alpinestars SMX Goretex boots for about 10 years. They were brilliant and never let in any water, even on one trip on the Italian motorway where every part of me was soaked - apart from my feet (think someone constantly throwing bucket of water at you).

One of the zips broke in the end, so I got a pair of these which have been similarly brilliant. Why change a winning team?

  20. My Sidi Black Rain Evo boots are totally waterproof and warm. Plain looking boot, all black with reflective strip on the rear heel area. Got mine for a bargain £120 from £170 as were last size in stock. Buy at least a size up tho. Sidi come up small.
