Yes that’s correct. Had a V4S and V4 PP previously (and 11 GSA’s) before, but I’m told the Rally we have now is more roomy. Best of luck to the op returning to a GS. Cherrs
Nothing wrong with standing up to get a bit of wind going through the mesh jacket, especially after being sat baking in traffic, or to just stretch out, but a few seconds is all that’s needed. I’ve seen some folk riding standing up for prolonged amounts of time, and don’t really get it.
That#s what I thought too. They moved the lugages reaward, so in theory more space. Rear saddle also adjustable back and forth to fine tune it. Not sure if normal V4 has that too? Plus you get 30L tank for more touring.
Sounds like you’ve done the deal on the GS but that’s surely the best ‘compromise’? The Rally has more room, bigger tank and has been mopping up accolades in the press/media against the GS… looks great too.
I did take it for a test , but was okay , but still wont fit my needs , the Gs will suit better as its no slouch and will keep up with most bikes up to 3 figures without much hassle on the right roads and in the right hands. I will miss the V4 motor but will be glad to get the smooth and extra torque of the flat twin back rather than punching the gearbox all day , plus the wife will be happy again , and so will I. Solo riding would be different as I would have kept it , but we are a team so one need to settle for a fair medium. The media as normal boost opinions , but for me after 3 V4s I have a slightly different perspective on the whole concept . not all roses.
Well said. That flat twin engine takes some beating for lively touring. I’m very pleased with the Rally and will stay with it for a while, but would not rule out another GSA. Best of luck.
Why not just fly the wife there this time, you ride down, then when the M1300 GS comes out, get one of those? You'll lose a packet on the 1250 as soon as the 1300 comes out. I speak from experience, as you know!
Worst thing about owning a GS instead of a ducati is having to look at the thing when you open the garage door, only it's mother could love it, subjectively speaking, of course.
Well , still got a love spot for the Meccano Gs , its subjective , but still good looking , like a beaten puppy , still gives you the thing you crave for but , you need to love it after others have abused it
Rode my friends GS and he rode my 1200s 2015. Can understand your wife’s feelings. The GS is a behemoth and just soaks everything up and it’s got that BMW blandness which when doing long miles just eats them up and gets on with the job. My friend does long tours and he said he’d have his GS for the big tours and mine for the rest of the time. I can understand that. Never ridden a V4 but the 1200 is just more sprightly and energetic and less refined. More sports bike than tourer whereas GS is much more sedate tourer if that’s what you want. I didn’t like the engine casing position on GS, kept banging my shins. Had a s1000r and the bmw quickshifters are always so sloppy slow and lazy. Prefer my manual shift on 1200s. Didn’t think I would. It’s stopped me wanting a 1260 having ridden that GS now. The GS was really comfortable but not my cup of tea. Don’t think it would make me want to ride it for the sake of riding it and I wouldn’t enjoy it as much as my Multistrada. I completely agree with your wife on the comfort and refinement aspect but sorry for you. Safe riding.
I think the previous post sums up the differences really well. I don't do Sunday ride outs, nor commute etc. I go on trips with my bike of 3 plus days and a GS just gets you there, nice and safe, but it makes the twisties fun too. The MS is more fun, but just not as easy if that makes any sense.
Changed to a GS 3 years ago (from MS1200); thought it was time to be sensible, plus do away withthe chain. I still don't like it. It gets me around, but impossible to love and BMW dealers seem to be even worse than Ducati dealers. I'd go back if I could afford it. Also, my wife, as passenger, preferred the seat and the panniers on the Ducati.
