Wet Dash

  1. ...........sorry to be a nag but it is better all round to continue an existing discussion if there is one rather than start again :D

  2. Jet washers was going to be my point. Not good for bikes at all.

One thing i have noticed with mine is the amount of steam that comes off the rad guard when starting it after washing. All that steam goes up underneath the clocks so not a bad idea to shove a rag under the clocks whilst all that steam evaporates away.

  3. I do thorough washes on a dry day then ride the bike immediately (very gently until warm of course) = no problem with steam. Apart from wiping down the plastic I leave the bike dirty in the summer when salt is not a risk and wash the day before a ride or if not an early start immediately before the ride. In 15,000 miles I have had no corrosion or misting problems.

In the winter I do a thorough blow dry, especially around the calipers and radiator (from behind) and paintbrush acf 50 on fasteners and casting joints. But I avoid riding on wet salted roads.

  4. Ok Nipped into DMC Moto today and showed the mechanic that picture of my dash, He said he hasn't seen one that bad before and asked me to email him the pic so he could get on to Ducati, he has also ordered me a new dash. I've aske him if he can try and seal it before he fits it to my bike, he said he will have a look at it and see what he can do.

  5. my bike was parked in the sun on Saturday ( yes the sun ) and I noticed condensation, the 1st time ive seen it,

  6. Even newish sealed double glazed windows can do that but it clears when the sun moves round. Also a fog City visa insert in some conditions no matter how good the seal. I wouldn't consider it a problem as long as it clears itself and warming with a hair dryer will speed that up.

  7. I reckon the dash units are sealed to water like rain and washing the bike but aren't hermetically sealed, so air can get in to them. That air can be damp and will bring moisture in with it. When you park the bike in the sun the heat causes moisture in the unit to rise where it condenses on the underside of the glazed panel. I've had faulty double glazed window panels behave exactly the same way.
While my bike was laid up over the winter I took the dash off and sealed it a jar with a large bag of silica gel and kept it in a kitchen cupboard. I'm fairly sure that it is totally dry right now but the chances are it will come back. Looking at the dash, the only possible way for air to get in is through the connector at the bottom but I'm buggered if I know how I'd seal it.
