  5. Hi Jen,

I know exactly where your head is at the moment honey, like a lot of other people on this forum I had a dance with the big "C" in 2004, despite never having had a ciggy in my life I was diagnosed with throat cancer ( that p1ssed me off big style! ) and had what they call a "radical neck dissection" basically it gets rid of anything you don't need and after 44 staples leaves you with a bit of a "Frankenstein neck"!!

The following radiotherapy I had saw my weight go from 14st 2lbs down to 10st 6lbs in the space of 7 weeks as it had burnt my throat out and I just couldn't eat anything, that nearly bloody killed me, let alone the cancer!
A lifelong friend, after a visit said to my wife "I think that might be the last time I see my mate" I looked like I was a gonner!!, lots of people had written me off I later found out.
I just had a total nightmare of a year including a massive crash on the bike when a right turning 4 x 4 took me out and I spent the next 4 months in a wheelchair and had to learn how to walk again.

BUT.........I'm stiil here and am in absolutely rude health as they say!!

You will be too, of that I'm sure because you have the right mind set to get over this, focus on your family and your life and get it into your head that you've just got too much to live for.
Once you get your mind right, the rest of your body follows, I have always been a right stubborn, awkward git tbh, but that's what you need in situations like this..your guts and tenacity will get you through it, believe me, the mind is a massively powerful tool - use it!

Also as time goes on, all the worries fade, every ache and pain ( or in my case, sore throat ) is not a return visit of the big "C", and eventually it concerns you less and less, your too busy getting on with your life!

Consider yourself massively hugged young Lady,

    Onwards and upwards!!

  7. Wow! You are an inspiration, getting a mind-set can sometimes be harder some days than others, every ache, pain or twinge I get I think is cancer, even though it's only been a couple of months finishing my radiotherapy.
You're right though,I have too much to live for and if the worse comes to the worse,I will fight back.
Thank you for taking the time to write this,it must've taken some guts, big hugs to you too x

  9. Your more than welcome Jen,

Just wanted to give you an example of what people can get through when the sh1t hits the fan and still get back to a normal life.

If you need to talk or anything you know where I am.

Take care and be kind to yourself x

  13. Wow, what a thread. These are moving stories and full of hope too. I lost both my brothers to cancer, I have 2 friends fighting it at the mo and another friend a year younger than me with Alzheimer's. It's made me realise that you never know what's around the corner so enjoy what you've got while you've got it to enjoy.

All the best to you JenC and you too Poucher.

  14. You know you have my biggest respect Jen
I wish you every positive healing thought (and the same for each of you experiencing any dreadful moment)
Reading your story this morning I can't imagine why my aunty never told any of us about her breast cancer or went through her op to remove breast and lymph nodes and return herself home the next day.

My young friend was diagnosed at the same time as you Jen she has just finished her radiotherapy she also had chemo through the year which knocked her around
She is going to celebrate big time Christmas this year
She is to undergo double mastectomy next year
She was telling me that her doctor said the lump was nothing to worry about and because of her age 32 they didn't rush to do much about it it was only her insistence to get the lump checked because her instinct was telling her it was cancer!!

Like you she has an amazing supportive family who rallied around to look after her little ones and she has a positive attitude

You ladies are an inspiration in the face of adversity and I respect you

Keep moving forward Jen with that lovely man of yours and I hope to get to meet you as soon as I can xxx

  18. I don't know you Jen, but my mum had cancer of the tonsils and had radio theropy and chemo together!! She's been in remission for over 25 years now and only has to have 5 year check ups. A good mentel attitude certainly helps, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Well done and best of luck to you and your family. Dave.
