The deed's been done. Decisions were made and after much research and many comparisons I bought a 998S, 1 owner, low mileage (<6k), originally specced as a Troy Bayliss Replica replica with all the graphics put on by the supplying dealer when new - unfortunately, they're not the correct graphics, what a stoopid dealer. However, on the plus side it comes with Titanium Termis, lots of carbon fibre bits and all the original bits. Before anyone comments it is a BiP but has a carbon fibre Mono seat unit fitted. Here's my logic (which may not be your logic), in no particular order; 1. It's not an official limited edition model but only 405 998S were made by the factory of which only 295 were sold in Europe which, in my book, makes it as limited in supply (albeit without a corresponding yolk plaque admittedly) as the Troy Bayliss Replica 998S (400 units), the Ben Bostrom Replica (465 units) and the FE (981 units of which 695 were sold in Europe). 2. The style of these bikes is now regarded as a timeless classic. 3. I'm very familiar with them. 4. Being the TestraStretta engine I don't anticipate issues getting parts over the next 15-20 years. 5. It will resell really easily as and when the time comes (and no matter how much of a keeper a bike is the time to sell will always come at stage). 6. I like it. I have to give a big shout out to @Expat Jack who, on his way to get his weekly shopping (essential journey),called in to view the bike in the flesh as it was in his part of the world. I had had numerous conversations with the vendor and he'd sent me close up pics of various things as requested but there's nothing like seeing a bike in the flesh before committing so thank you very much EJ. When I get it back to me later this month I'll start another thread about it as I strip it down and give it a deep clean, which it needs having been standing for a couple of years and having only done 1762 miles in the last 14 years and zero miles in the last 12 months and never having had the covers off to clean underneath.
