What Famous Place Or Location Do You Live Near....

  1. I just can't drink at home unless perhaps, it's with a meal when we have friends over. Dunno why other than my parents never used to either.

Most nights SWMBO will have a glass of wine or two and I'll have a cup of tea or coffee.

However when I go out to the pub/bar with friends I'll more often than not get lashed on 10-15 G&T's :)

  2. Cirque de Gavarnie, highest waterfall in France.

  3. If that's where I think it is, in the Pyrenees, it's the first place I visited in France a trip that was responsible for my lifelong love if the country and me doing a degree in French and studying at the Sorbonne. Lovely part of the world!

  4. I look out my window at Pic du midi that would be a major landmark.

  5. Near the home of the 1829 steam trials.

  6. Couple of miles away from where the Magna Carta was signed - very nearly 800 years ago - petrol was proper cheap in them days.

  7. Actually, I live about 5 mins from the D908 Clermont L'herault to Bedarieux, here's a quote from Performance Bikes March 2015.

" The attraction was the twisting, turning , lean-fest of the D908 that heads from Clermont L'Herault , cuts throught the side of a mountain and has the best complex of high speed corners we've seen this side of the Nurburgring "

I must of ridden it about a billion times, often with my mate Craig ( Ventodue ) on his 750 Dharma, 350 scrambler or one of his many Lavinda's, err I mean Laverda's......sorry old chap.

Unfortunately I am sitting ( working ) in London , no bike at the mo' but will be back down there in 2 weeks.

  8. Moved a few miles away now but grew up in Enfield, site of the worlds first ever cash dispenser installed in 1967 it's first user was Reg Varney ( a right twat on the few occasions I met him) who lived about half a mile up the road from me.

  9. In the UK I live just up the road from Cothele House and Morwelham Quay - all very nice. There are lots of other National Trust type places dotted around Devon and Cornwall...
"Down south" I am surrounded by history - little bits of it ever since the islands were first discovered in 1592, and since their British administration was first established in 1833. Obviously the most famous parts relate to 1982, but the first major sea battle of the first world war was also fought here and there is a memorial to that on Stanley sea-front just up the road from the most southerly cathedral in the world. To the west are Darwin, Goose Green, San Carlos and Ajax Bay; to the west Mount Harriet, Mount Longdon, Two Sister Ridge, Mout Kent, Mount Tumbledown...

  10. Anyone for a game of Canasta?

  11. Isnt that a cream for something?

  12. Kensington Palace

  13. New Lanark Village, one of 25 UNESCO world heritage sites in the UK. A beacon of engineering innovation, wealth creation, weath redistribution and education.

  14. Dartmoor is 2 minutes away, beautiful, but restricted to 40mph to save the wildlife, so I don't take the bike that way very often, do plenty of hiking on the moor though which is always stunning.

    Also Cap'n Jasper's is only a few miles away....i think that's famous?!

  15. Surely the second major sea battle of the first world war? I'm afraid we lost the first one (Coronel).

  16. OK Pete, if you're being particularly picky... Yes, the battles of Coronel and the Falklands were two seperate engagements... All part of the same overall campaign... Whatever...

  17. And when I said "here" I meant "in this general vicinity". Chile is only just next door, on a global scale...

  18. I am not sure if where I live is classified as "famous" but it is well known the world throughout. I live in Silverthorne, work in Dillon but most people know the area as Ski Country USA. Neighboring areas (within 15 minutes of driving) are Keystone, Copper Mountain and Breckenridge. Also very close to Vail and Beaver Creek and then a drive to Aspen. The Colorado Rockies are majestic in their own right...young and ever so popular. A lot of fun to ride in on great weather days which we see more of than most. Though this month is the month for massive snow which is good for the skiers/snowboarders and tourists I suppose. Not famous...well maybe a bit.

  19. I live near these two
