What have we learned from 2012?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Pete1950, Dec 29, 2012.

  1. Schoolboy error

  2. I've learned that a mobile phone or a computer can be as vicious a weapon as a gun or knife. I saw a body on the railway tracks a few weeks ago. It was a 17 year old schoolgirl who, as I've since found out, was being bullied by text/social media/e-mails and it had driven her to suicide, by stepping in front of a train. Not good.

It certainly made me stop and think about the way I communicate and deal with people.
Especially people you are not face to face with.

  3. I wish more people could see this. The way emails and texts makes you faceless - a keyboard warrior - makes it all too easy to be nasty to people when you otherwise wouldn't be. If the victims could see how spineless the aggressors were...

  4. I learned that you only live once. Its Cliche, but life is not a dress rehearsal.
Don't regret tomorrow something you should have done today.
    GO FOR IT!

  5. That I'm just a soul who's intentions are good.

That Alzheimer's is a terrible disease.

That this site is a wonderful example of how people who have a shared interest can co- exist with humor and good spirit, despite their sometimes conflicting religious and political views.

That I will never be able to wring the neck of my Ducati like Casey Stoner, despite giving it my best shot.

  7. That there are good years and bad years. Whether you are looking at economics, sport, your health, or the weather - some years are good, but never take good times for granted and don't get complacent. Inevitably bad years will come along too, so better be ready for them.

And if you claim personal credit for the good ones, you'll have to take personal blame for the bad ones.

  8. I've taught myself how to build an Ark in seven days, oh and how to count to two

  9. I learned that the idiots that are supposed to run the UK appear to be just as effing crooked as they are in other countries....

......actually, I didn't learn that in 2012.....I have known that for the last 30 years........

.........what I did learn is that the people that do the proper work in the NHS are decent hardworking people even if they are under pressure.

  10. On the negative side I have lost faith in a couple of friends who knew I was having problems but didn't visit.
On the plus side I have to thank my lovely wife,my caring daughter and son for all the love, care and support they have given me over the last 2 years.I don't know what I would have done without them,I am very lucky.

  12. As above... plus I've finally learnt that there is no point in hanging on to old stuff that's getting you down. It's better just to move on, accept that some people are not what you thought and will never change. And that the only person who is responsible for what happens in your life is you. Can't wait for 2013 now.

  15. I learned that you should never put your finger into the stomach of a bearded vulture. This is because its gastric juices have a pH of 1, which is very handy if your diet is 80% bones, which the bearded vulture's is.

Fortunately I learned this off the radio, not personal experience.

  16. Where's the pics then?

  17. yep , that's a tough one... bit like being 50 in russia in 1989... and the worst is those who wrecked it are still there enjoying the rewards of that rippoff without any hinderance.. and if you're in business, you have to remain polite to them...

for myself: that there is a timeslot or date stamped on most things... friendships are born and then wither, so do jobs, businesspartners.. so if you can surround yourself with enough people over a long period of time you can consider yourself lucky...

i also learned the power of inaction... the effect time has on situations... that many so called problems that need attending to solve themselves better without intervention... it takes time for insight to grow and peace to be found.. that there is a time and a place for everything and that good things come to those who wait.. .. finally!
